In his speech accepting the Nobel Peace Prize, Mohammed Yunus, Bangladeshi founder of Grameen Bank, called for ways to end poverty and consign it to a museum. Yunus himself has innovated a great idea — microfinance — to get loans to poor people with no collateral.

The end of poverty would be wonderful .... but sadly it probably will not happen. This is something that people have to do to help themselves .... there is already a scheme around where people who can do something to help themselves receive so much money to start their own business .... cannot remember what it is called. These people are loaned the money for their business ... are guided by people who know all about having a business plan etc. They have to pay the money back over a certain period of time ... they can reborrow again to expand the business. It is happening in many poorer countries .... or was for a few years ... but I do know that some people abused the system which was unfortunately for future people who wanted to borrow. Many people, particularly women, started up businesss and they also succeeded. That took them out of the poverty cycle .... some of them who were making local crafts and employed others from their village to help and so on. In a couple of cases it took the word poverty out of the while local villages ... sure it took a few years but it can and does work. This was a case of people being willing to help themselves .... the world cannot help people who do not want to help themselves ... and that includes bringing an end to poverty.

The less privileged in Bangla desh to that matter in any country are just "votes". They are an unrecorded commodity sans value in the registers of the administrators and the one sitting above nonchalantly. They were helped by a mortal not by the Gods. From this it is obvious that none will come to your help .Help your self.Script your own destiny.Rabindra nath Tagore rightly said "Ekla chalo re",means go alone. The greatness of nobility lies in the fact.it looks towards others, simply brushing aside its own greatness. That is Mohammed Yunus.

I think that ending poverty would be a wonderful thing. So many people are suffering in so many parts of the world from poverty and hunger.
