Do you use the internet from work? I've seen a few surveys on this and I think that people aren't quite honest with it. I'd imagine that the true numbers should show that more people do that who admit to it.
Some see it as a job perk, others see it as stealing company time and resources. What is your opinion on using the internet for personal reasons while at work (like I'm doing right now)? What is your company policy?

Hey Watch,
Yeah I use internet from my office. Being self-employed though it's really my time anyway. I would like to point out though that if you don;t smoke or drink coffee then why not spend a few minutes here and there surfing.... Smokers get to run off all the time and never get penalized, why should the surfer be treated differently with their time?

I totally agree. Some of the smokers at my office are fiends and take at least 10 breaks a day. It's a bit of a joke here.

Guilty as charged....
While at work, I use the Internet for work - I just had to look up some regs for a client.
I also use the Internet for ME at work also - like right now...
I also use my home computer for work sometimes too, so maybe it evens out a bit?
We're a very small firm so I don't know that we have an official policy. I do know that when we have a slew of work to do he doesn't like it at all. I usually get all my work done without any problems so this is just my relaxaion mode inbetween tasks...

I don't see it as any worse than reading the news paper, email a friend via company email, taking a personal call, filing your nails, chatting around the water cooler, etc. There are plenty of time wasters that occur away from the computer. Some people view personal internet use as an evil, but don't consider it to other similar ways to waste time resources.
Thanks for being honest.

Thanks for commenting.
I agree that too much is a bad thing.
It isn't against company policy here though and many many people seem to use their corporate email accounts for personal reasons (which I strongly feel falls into the same category even though people often disagree).

Thanks for the comment. I play. Not online games (well, um, maybe every great once and a while), but I do get on message board from time to time and check my email maybe once a day. I ebay on my lunch breaks. I don't really see spending a minimal amount of time as a big deal because people are allowed smoking breaks or are allowed to get up for coffee (which I do neither).
