I live in Europe and here is many smoking restrictions, like you can not smoke in public places and ext. There will be soon new restriction here in Latvia and many other EU countrys, when people can not smoke outside(on the streets, even near your houses dorway and ext, if you know what I mean), soon smokers could smoke only in there own appartment. I think when this is total discrimination.
Are we living in democratical country's, or what? Some none smokers who sits in the parlament(or whatever) decides about these new restrictions, and they think when, with these restrictions, will couse people to smoke less. I think when this is total absourd.

I am strictly against smoking in public places...It is alright when u smoke inside ur appartment..but in the places where non-smokers are present..it is against the rule..
As per democracy is concerned..it has given u the right to do any act..but at the moment that act is hamparing others then it become an offence..

Well, think about it. It's proven that smoking harms the body so why not ban it?

its good that people do not smoke in public places as the effects of inhaling smoke is more dangerous than actually smoking..

If u go on banning people by smoking in public places or on streets one fine day a smoker has to smoke in his apartment..which is more harmful to the inmates of the apartment than that to the people on the streets..

I hate public smokers. no offence. But I really hate it. On the halte wind can blow the smoke into my direction and I able to caugh. I think smokers should make sure there is NO BODY suround him before start to smoke.
I can smell smoke even though it is 5-10 meters from me. I think if smokers want to poisoned himself, it's ok. BUt please don;t harm non smokers.
There is area where U can smoke.
I will be happy if no smokers in public area.
I get alergic with smoke

Your views are perhaps correct based on you your self.however, you must be aware about the effects of smoking on any individual.even the passive smokers also get affected alot by smoke exposure. However, your own views also must be respected but in that case, perhaps you will have to smoke only at the areas allowed for smoking.

I like to be in your place where smoking is restricted. I hate smokers but I'm in a country where smokers are scattered everywhere. Smoking is dangerous to your health!!

I'm a smoker, but I have to say that I partly agree with this type of restriction. For example: My mother suffers from extreme suffocating problem, and that means if she smells smoke she can even die. Why should she die because someone else wants to smoke? And don't forget: many children are born today with asthma problems. Why make it for them more severe?

You certainly have a right to smoke, but I also have a right to breathe clean air in a public place (well, as clean as air can be nowadays, lol!). Smoking is a proven health risk, and while it's your right to take that risk in your own private residence, it's also a non-smokers right to not to have that risk forced upon them. I also believe that if children live with a parent who smokes, that parent should not be allowed to smoke inside the home, or car, or wherever the children are present. I know this wouldn't o over well with the smokers, they would be very quick to start whining about THEIR rights, when what they should be thinking about is their children's right to be healthy. Physical abuse includes more than just hitting a child, IMO. Deliberately and repeatedly exposing a helpless child to harmful toxins is also abusive.

i don't think this kind of legislation is not discrimination. these laws are meant to discourage, but not totally prevent, a person from smoking. if people want to engage in a dangerous and anti-social pastime then we should let those people be. however smokers must also accept that the rest of the public would rather be out of harms way. after all, there is that old adage which goes "your freedom ends where the freedom of others begins, and only there."

In my opinion I dont think they are trying to let people smoke less, they are trying to protect the people who doesnt smoke and gets sick with second hand smoking. I got sick becuase of that and I dont think its fair for me that you chose to smoke and I dont but I get sick and you dont...

People have a right to do what they want to be honest, but i think that there should either be a law about places to smoke or an upgrade in the way cigerettes are made. The problem with smoking is not the smoking itself, if you choose to pollute your lungs and die its your choice, the problem comes in when smoke is blown around everyone else, this is what this law is trying to adress and i think on this reason it is perfectly exceptable.

Restricting actions that can damage others and lead them to terribly painful deaths, also great immediate reactions, like coughing, sneezing, itchy watery eyes, I'm all for restricting, or even banning. Not everyone wants formeldahyde etc. in their tissues.

There was just a law passed here in Nevada regarding no smoking in restaurants, as long as it is not a casino. You should see the problems people have with this. Restaurants are pissed because they think they are losing business to the casinos. Smokers are pissed because most of these resturants had non-smoking sections already, what's the big deal. My husband is a smoker, who kindly smokes outside and away from me. He even understands why the law was passed and thinks it is a great idea. Sorry, but non-smoking sections still get smoke from the smoking sections. That's all there is to it. Waitstaff are happy because if they don't smoke, they no longer go home smelling of smoke. I don't think it absurd at all. I used to be a heavy smoker and woke up one day. My husband is trying to quit, and working hard, but has his moments. My 2 cents.

well am sorry to say butu r kind of getting a bit emotional here smoking is basically not good for anyone so still if u feel like smoking u can smoke in ur appartments it's fine with everyone as second hand smoke is more dangerous and people who don't smoke really can't breathe around smokers....just like u don't feel comfortable sitting without smoking people like me don't feel comfortable sitting around people who smoke....i hope u got my point

"Fire at one end and a fool at the other"- this simply discribes a smoker. Why? We all know smoking is injurious to health. Still people smokes because either they think no disease will attack them or they want to enjoy with the expense of their health. A Government has it's duty to protect it's people from attcks, invasions, diseases etc etc, So It is best to ban smoking in public places as wise people can save from the bad activities of "fools". It is democracy, one is protected and other is free to do his activities.
