How to trace your response to a discussion.

Whenever I visit Mylot I usually check through the discussions that I have started, the discussions that my friends have started and then the discussions with no response.
After going through these I always look at the discussions that I have responded to in order to check if my response has received a reply or comment. This is the part where it becomes difficult, because if a discussion has received a hundred or so responses then I have to wade through pages of them to find my response.
I know that Mylot have enough work at the moment, but I think that a better search facility to track my own responses would be useful.

I agree 100%. I wish there was an easier way to keep track because the way it's set up now I feel like I probably miss a lot of replies just because I have to go hunting for them.

yupz, it would be something that can help a lot. i have replied to posts, hoping to get an answer, but a day later, when i was looking through the response, i couldn't find my post after searching through 8-9 pages of replies. in the end, i gave up searching and started another thread asking the same question.
i guess if myLot have this capability of searching for your own thread, there won't be repeated questions within the tons of response/discussions.

I agree with you. It is impossible to find what the people had to say to your response. there are just too many to respond to by the time you get to them. that would be a great improvemet to the site if they came up with a better way.

Are you reading my mind or what? I give up if I notice that there are hundreds of replies. I think that I would be more involved in some discussions if I could find my "place". Though on a few more heated debates I have found myself jotting down what number response I was and what page it was on! I hope MyLot takes heed to this suggestion.

Hi! you are also doing the same thing that I do, and we posted our response at the same time. Maybe that is telepathy.

I agree 100%. I'm fed up wading through pages of stuff to try to find my responses, or find other people's responses to me so that I can reply back to them. I thought I must be doing something wrong.

I totally agree with you. I have been really frustrated earlier. But then I found a new technology and two high tech gadgets to overcome this problem. One gadget is square and consists of 80 pages with front and back cover the pages are blank and can be turned very easily. The second gadget is cheap, thin and has an automatic ink flow which when kept on any page of gadget one and rubbed will give forth a thin line of ink creating a lasting impression.
I use these to note down my response number and refer to it to find my response. They are old friends. Free from viruses and relaible. Why forget them?

We could simply keep a text list of our responses with the response number, which would be adequate because there are 10 responses per page irrespective of length. The problem is that we are not likely to do it consistently, so if we forget once or twice then we are back to the same problem.

yeah i totally agree also, in fact i posted something about this a few days ago, but you worded it much better as i didn't get any responses. I do the exact same thing and it is quite time consuming when i could be responding to other discussions. I think better search would be good as well as the option to receive someones whole discussion as email if you chose it, you could always delete it later.

Whenever there is a response to a discussion I started, I received a mail in my gmail inbox. However, I am not sure if responses to our responses will also be forwarded to our email.
Good food for thought.

Yes, we need that so badly. I so agree with you. And while they are at it, I would love for them to have a way to mark our discussions on our profile page that we started showing whether we have chosen a best response. I don't like to choose a best response right away and I forget which ones I have chosen one and which I haven't.

I think your idea is a very good one as it would make it so much easier to trace our responses so we can reply and see who commented on our topics. Especially if you had a lot of responses to your topic, it can be difficult to find your comment or someone elses comment.

I agree totally too, often times it gets too hard to keep flicking through pages trying to find your inital response.
I'm part of another place where they introduced an email alert thing - if you respond to a thread you're given the choice on whether or not you want to receive an email if your response is replied to (did that make sense?) - I have no idea how it works (that type of stuff is way over my head, but I wonder if something like that would work here)

Well the only way this would be helpful is if the e-mail alert had a direct link to our post, and with the current way discussions work here I don't think that is possible. The best that could happen is maybe a page number where your response is. But as it is, if I post a response tonight, and don't get back to myLot for 24 hours, heck if I am going to remember what page that was on. And if I responded to more than one person, good luck! And if I had 20 responses in one day, which would be a record for me, I probably wouldn't even bother. =) Good thought though, maybe myLot can work something out.

It's such a good idea. I hope mylot will respond as soon as possible so we can enjoy faster search instead of open pages one by one :)
