Copyright Images

As I browse through some of the postings and also some profiles I, like everyone else, see images that have been uploaded by members. Some of these images have company names embedded into the images as they are copyright images. Does this mean that everyone who has uploaded these images, probably from the internet, has obtained appropriate permission (and paid the required fees) to use them in this manner?
For myself, the only images that I upload are the ones I have either paid for or have taken myself and therefore own the copyright, AND it does not breach the rules of myLot.
Anyone care to comment?

Those sites that let you use their pictures for free--does that include you getting paid for them? Because everytime you upload a picture in a topic you get paid. I doubt someone else would like you earning money for their free picture. It is only like a penny, but still, it is the principal. I would be very angry to know photos I uploaded for FREE use were being used to earn money by someone else.

I only upload my own art and pictures. So, I am not worried what I am doing.

If they have a logo on it...most likely they're taken from sites where you NEED to pay for them. I get my images from free stock photo sites or get permission from the owner. However, in some case with celebrity images (like from photoshoots), I do use them to make layouts/icons with online but always give proper credit to the photographer.

Yes I think copyright pictures on the net is a very complicated area, yes some people put their tags on clipart and photos but they do put them up on the public domain for people to enjoy, what they don't like is when people change the picture, add names to them or of course make money from them, but the tag in most cases is like a recognition thing.

It's a huge problem, I too have only ever used pictures that I've taken myself.
I think the problem is that not enough people realise just how much trouble they can actually get in.
I have a big problem with people copying articles for examle and in essence passing them off as their own words - like images these people put a lot of effort into their creations and deserve the recognition for it.
Yes some sites do allow you to freely copy and alter etc their photos but they often have fairly strict guidlines (links back to their site etc) or you can buy them for your own use.
I know that I for one would be devastated if I saw someone using one of my images (without permission) and I'd be very quick in finding out just what I could do about it.

I agree entirely with what you say here. One of the things that you will notice that sites like this will do is to put the disclaimer in that they are not responsible for the images and content published on here, surely that would be a warning to all users that there is something serious to consider.
Thanks for your response, and best wishes for christmas and new year.
Ps, like your avatar, obviously one taken by yourself.

If it is on the net and you can download it to your computer it is fair game. If you put something on the net, and do not want people to use it, you must protect it from being downloaded. I have pictures on my home site that cannot be copied, or downloaded. I also have pictures that can. If you put it out there it's out there for the world.

Yes I agree, copyright is applicable in any form of puyblication whether it be magazine or the web. Most members of the public probably don't specifically copyright their own work, holiday snaps etc, but it is still there when the image is created.
Thanks fort your response.

I have noticed this myself and cannot understand why anyone would do something like that.
It does not surprise me to find that a lot of people cheat, because unfortunately cheating appears to be very popular these days. What does surprise me is that people will upload a copyright image with the information displayed so blatantly. I would expect that they would at least have the sense to crop the writing from the image to try to disguise the fact.

I sometimes wonder whethter the spammers and cheaters on this and other sites are some form of lower life form. I don't know whether we could class them as criminals, stealing money from the site through breaking the rules, but I know that my moral standards would not allow me to knowingly break the rules, especially if it was to earn an extra cent or two.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Since i have join MyLot for more than 1 month, i still not yet upload any images. This is because i worried about the copyright issue. If i upload it from any internet, it is just like 'stealing' somebody work and use it on our own. This is not right. If in the future i want to upload my image, i will take the photo myself and upload to Mylot.

Thanks for your response, we are all entitled to our opinions, but some people do make a living from photography and other imagary and we need to respect that.
I wonder where the image came from that you uploaded onto here. Maybe if the owner of the image were to sue you for misuse of it you may have a different attitude to it? Or is it your own?

Yes, I was really surprised by all the images uploaded on this site. I only upload pictures that either I have taken or I make. it is just safer that way.

I know for me too this is the only way to do. The money to me isn't important but I know it is for some people, but I have never cheated in my life for monetary gain and I have no intention of starting now but it really annoys me when others can get away with it. Its good to see that myLot are cleaning up the site.
Thanks for your response.

Just another point for you too, one of the rules states that you need to post in English, I've notice 2 or 3 of your postings in you home language. I appreciate it may be difficult for you but if you persevere I'm sure that other members will help you where they can in developing your English. Winning all round.
Enjoy your time here.

I upload only what I have permission to upload. Even if something doesn't have the copy right symbol - anything that is in tangible form is copy righted upon being made tangible. So as soon as a photo is taken, an image is made, or something is written, it becomes copyright.

I agree that images with a (C) sign on shouldn't be uploaded on someone elses account just because they like them. I normally save a few pictures I find on the net but that's because I like them and they are not copyrighted pictures so don't feel anything is wrong with that.
