What you suggest could be a great idea . . . I don't imagine voice recognition and voice activation would be a big deal for the boffins, but obviously it will cost in the early stages.
What I would love to see is a multi-image screen showing several / many locations at the same time. But when you saw one screen you were very interested in then you could maximise it.
I would also like to see TV incorporated into standard internet transmissions and connections.
Oh . . . per chance to dream !!!

there is program you can use to help you type, but i am not aware on any new program out there yet. but i have an idea is in working progcess, where you can log on to a website 24/7 and listen to music, anywhere in the world, no matter where you at. i called a website programer a week ago to see how much it would cost, they would get back to me on that soon, i know the program to be use is call " video steaming, and it combine song files that can brocase it over the internet, they said it is high end programing it would cost me a few thousand dollars. so i hope they get back to me soon and i hope this would be the next trend of thing on the internet.

I have special server and I provide this service to the end user. Yes, it cost a lot to run, and a lot to order. It is not new but it is on huge demand now.

oh the new 'speech to text' feature like you have in the latest mobiles would be really rad. i mean my comp will read out my mylot discussions/responses to me and i can just 'speak out' the responses and VOILA - it'll type itself. won't that be so awesome ?

a friend of mine is learning how to use Dragon Naturally speaking but he finds it too difficult...I think this is one of the main problems coming with new technology today...sometimes you need more time to read the instructions than to do it on your own or as you did it before they invented the latest device...I do agree with one of you who said that we are not very far from having these multifunctional screen working at home...there is much of work behind pc we use and they're surely looking for something like the screen you described...hope just like you that we can all afford the price and hope it will be easily used, just like a mobile phone or a moder pc consolle...maybe in a few months we will be here talking to each others from our new potent screen!!!!

Dragon is on the market for many years now, but I don't like it. Computers and electronics are less expensive now, so in near future we all are going to easy afford multifunctional device.

It is possible because science has really advanced and you may never know when you would get to hear some new invention. So wait for it.

I think that could be possible. Anything nowadays with this technology that we have would make it happen.

I think what is only possible soon is the webconferencing community even for ordinary people with all videos and voice, not just chatting in the forums

Actually there are several companies working on just such programs, for the handicapped at this point but I would imagine they will be available for the general population.
People with severe arthritis would be able to participate more fulling in the online discussions such as Mylot has, quadrapeligics would also.
It would open new avenues for those unable to work because of physical restrictions to have employment and perhaps feel more full filled as contributing citizens.
It is something that would certainly simplify my life, as I am one of those with arthritis who has reduced their time online and on the computer because of pain and plain old stiffness.

I think it's a little bit hard to implement.
But i think it may be a very good idea.
If u want,u can try a software like Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

this is not what I am talking about. dragon is hard to use. I think about something easy, almost like talking to cell phone.

It sounds great. No typing! Think of the time I would save. But how about we add another feature to your futuristic screen and have it translate for us. Think of the possibilities then. We could converse with anyone anwwhere.
Nothing is impossible, anyone who has lived for fifty years or more has to believe that. What is amazing is all these wonderful inventions we witnessed are simply taken for granted by the kids of today. Tomorrow, well ... let's wait and see!!
