there are just people out there who cant stop the urge to steal others belongings even if they can afford to buy the same thing or that they already have it. i don't know why they like to steal. some say, this is a form of disease. if so, does this mean they won't get imprisoned for stealing? would that be fair to the victim?

I think that those people, even sick, must be punished for the crimes of stealing. It is breaking the law. If a person kills or rapes, they are sick too. They must pay the price.

i think these people should be sent to establishment complete with doctors/psychiatrists to help them get rid of this disease. They should be isolated from the public for the time being, until they are cured. we can't continue living in peace with thieves.

It is a disease, but that person knows they need help and should get it. Most kleptos who are 1st offenders usually get probation and community service plus a demand to go to a mental health program for their ailment. Now, if they dont or keep stealing then the book is thrown at them. Just putting sick people in jail is too expensive when there is help available.

I would have to say that if they have gotton help and still can not maintain themselves then perhaps they need a dose of jail to realize what they are doing. We are all victims of these crimes as retailers mark up extra just to cover off the thefts

these ppl do not need to be imprisoned.all they need is the right kind of medical treatment,n dat can suffice to help them get rid of their problem.
