According to me, well if I got a choice to freely customize my brand new computer than I will go for intel original mother board and processor (latest around 3 GHZ) 160 GB Hard drive Combo Drive, DVD-ROM, Scanner, Printer from HP wireless keyboard and mouse, the most xpensive modem and LAN card, 2 GB RAM .... then some one will shake my hand and say "wake up"

that depends on what do you do with your computer.
if it's for gaming/multimedia you can refer to this setup.
Intel Core 2 Duo or Athlon64 x2 Dual core Processor, with a build-in Multimedia soundcard, atleast a 100+GB hard drive for file storage. 1 to 2GB Memory module,a good speaker with subwoofer,a 17-19 inch LCD monitor,a DVD-ROM Drive for installing games and application (or watching DVD movies),a wireless mouse and keyboard,a webcam and headset .
