How do I stop my craving for chocolates and sweets?I am afraid of becoming a diabetic because it runs in the family, But I do love to eat chocolates after eating. I usually find something sweet after eating. How can I control my craving for sweets especially after meals?

That is bad news. Not an easy thing, I know. My sister jas recently been diagnosed with it too. Then I noticed there's quite a few new products lately. Some bakery sections in some stores have cookies, cakes, pies, made with sugar substitutes. Lots of cookies in the cookie aisle. Maybe some of those would help, though I guess you still have to count the sugar grams, or whatever.

Kackie, I'm Diabetic, too, and the sweet tooth is a serious issue. I can give you a few pointers on things that might help. I presume you know to watch carbs, fat, and protein and not just sugar, right? So many people think that all a diabetic needs to do is not eat sugar and that just isn't so. At any rate, here's something that helps my sweet tooth. Into a microwaveable bowl I put about 1/3 of an 8 ounce block of cream cheese. I warm it in the microwave until it's soft then add a bit of splenda and a splash of vanilla extract. I mix it all up and eat it with a spoon! It's great on a few fresh strawberries, too. Also, sometimes I use cottage cheese instead of cream cheese. This stuff makes a very nice snack. :)

Let's just hope that we don't end up having diabetes. I'm going to have a check up with the doctor to see my sugar levels. I guess you must do to.

I have a wicked sweet tooth. Sometimes it is hard to control. Try eating sweet fruits in place of sugary treats. Try baking with Splenda. A good friend has told me that she is a bonafide sugar junky. She now uses Splenda in all of her baking and says it is great. She gets her sweet stuff and not the sugar.

Well I am not the operson to ask this question of because I have a huge sweet tooth as well. I think everything in moderation is alright though and a few sweet things don't hurt. Have yourself tested regularly for diabetes if you are worried.

That is the thing, I am afraid to go to the doctor to see if I have diabetes. Maybe by next year on January I might just do that. Hopefully I won't have it. Hopefully. Have a nice day!

That is a better thing than my craving for sweets. But I do think that I could not prefer hash browns over my chocolates. Thanks for your reply to the discussion and have a nice day.

I really love chocolates and even if I have tonsillitis this will not hinder me in eating it. I don't know why but I really love it that's why when we had our christmas party and we have to write what our christmas wish would be for a certain amount I wrote lots of chocolates. Hehe! My colleagues said that I am an addict. I just ignore them.

i just love chocolates. in whatever shapes, forms or texture it might come in i would just pop in my mouth anf feel the choc'latey stuff and before realising it melts and i go in for more and more gain. that how it works for me everytiif one allows me to choose i would go for bitter ones than the milky stuff and soft mushy inside with a hard outside, but who cares about it all - chocolates are chocolates no matter what.
thanx for such a chocolatey post.
have more chocolates and forget diabetes!!

I really like sweets but I don't eat them often. I have more of a problem with craving starches, like potatoes and pasta.
Sometimes if I am craving sweets, I will eat fruit and that helps. Also try the sugar-free sweets. They are very good. They are more expensive, but it might save you from all the sugar (and diabetes).
I had a sugar-free cheese cake and it was delicious. Try it.

no..i hate sweet things.I don't crave for chocolates ,candy,ice-cream or any desert. How to control your craving for sweets?Maybe you should try unfavorable type of chewing gum. Those gums are tasteless but you can have a great chewing time.Perhaps then you can stop your addiction.

that is a tough one, how to curb a craving for chocolates - when they taste so good you wonder if you want to stop the cravings....
Maybe there is something in the chocolates that your body is otherwise lacking (no, besides the sugar :) ) maybe zinc or magnesium deficiency?

basically it is our strong will which can stop us to do something or encourage us to do something so my suggestion is that if u want to control this habbit u should fare enough towards u that the desire of eating chocolates fall down and u start thinking that there are some other things i can do so that my attention does not get towards eating chocolates........

Diabetes also runs in my family. Depriving yourself of these sweets might just as well cause you to crave more. Try balancing intake of sweets by setting the time when to eat sweets like only after meals. It won't hurt you to take little servings of sweets as long as they are moderated. Give yourself small rewards may motivate you to minimize these cravings. I hope that helps...
