Ouch, that sucks big time. What you can do, is tell the family you'll make gifts for New Year's instead of Christmas this year. We sometimes do that, when the money is too tight. Or, although it's a bit late for that, a gift exchange is a good idea; you only have to buy one gift.

I wish I did have an idea for you, but it is a little late to start.
What I do after the 1st of the year I will set aside 10 to 20 dollars a week to spend on chirstmas and I will also see things during the year and pick them up so that there is always something for chirstmas. the hard part in buying early is where to hide the items so they wont be found the the projected reciepent, and remember where they are hidden.
Good luck and I hope everything works out fine

We don't exchange gifts with my brothers and sisters anymore so I make everyone up a cookie tray. I make about a dozen different cookies each year. I wrap the trays up in basket wrap and ribbons so they look nice. Everyone really likes it. They look forward to them every year.

It's a little late to start getting the crafts going for homemade gifts, but do you bake? You could bake cookies for everyone.
Remember the true meaning of Christmas. It's not about the gifts and the ornaments. Spend the time with your family and appreciate each other; enjoy a nice meal together. If you feel the need to explain, keep it simple about having other priorities this year that prevented you from getting lavish gifts. The responsible thing to do is to avoid going into debt just for the sake of buying Christmas presents. You have better things to do with your money in the new year than to pay off high-interest credit card bills.
