Does anyone else think that Dell computers suck?

I think that the only reason for having to advertise that they have the best customer service is that when it comes to the computer they can't make a decent one. They need to have excellent customer service in order to deal with all the problems that their computers cause. On top of that when you call up all you get is someone who has no ability to think critically and is reading off the same information that a user should be able to find in the computer troubleshooting guide, either that came with the pc or laptop, or online.

I have had a dell desktop and two dell laptops. When I say they are bad, I speak from experience.

Ok, I have a love hate relationship with my Dell. I wanted one for years.. it was all I could think about.. DELL DELL.. Gotta have a DELL! Well, I now have a Dell that I purchased earlier in the year and it gives me crap all the time. However, I love it because it's still working through all the crap that it's given me.
Truth be told, I will NOT be purchasing a dell again! I'll search elsewhere when I go to purchase in mid 2007.

The thing with most computer manufacturers is about a 3rd of them use cheap components, but of course when you want it installed you have to pay an arm and a leg, I occassionally work as a pc technician and this is true to the fact, some hardware component resellers offer a far better warranty on the components that they have sold you, plus it's a lot cheaper to build up a pc... here's my pc statistics and will tell you the price at the end of it including a 17 inch flatscreen tft monitor....
motherboard. asus a8n sli deluxe.
processor. amd 64 dual core 4400
memory 2 gig corsair xms 3200 twin pro cms
hard drives totalling 1.5 terrabytes.
sound card. creative xi fi extreme gamer.
Dual 7600 GTx graphics cards modded to 7900 specifications.
mouse. logitech mx1000
keyboard. logitech g15 gaming keyboard
speakers. creative 7.1 speaker system.

Architecture has nothing to do with it. All PCs use standard PC architecture. There are interesting architectures that can be used in processors and the digital logic in chips, but when it comes down to it all motherboards have the same basic design and there is no way of getting around the way it needs to be wired. It is pretty much standard.

My mother had an Emachine, but she said she will never get another Emachine again! It comes with a one year warranty and exactly a year after the warranty went out on it, the power supply burnt out. She bought a new one and I had to put it in. THEN a month later, her hard drive quit working and I replaced that. THEN 2 months later, her processor went out and she just put it up in her closet. She now has a Dell, and it works fine and she has had it for about 2 years now. One thing I hate about Dell is how when I have to call Tech support, I can't get anyone that speaks good English to where I can understand them.

I am on a Dell computer and it's the best computer i've had over HP. I love it. It's fast and never gives me any problems. I think it's a great computer to invest in.

If you are a average pc users dell should be great for except the fact of the customer service. If you are to experienced then you might not like dell because you would want to customize it. If I wanted a customized one I build it myself otherwise I get a dell and let my family use it.

All of their parts are so proprietary that you can only get a lot of the parts from them and they charge an arm and a leg.

I have a Dell, and I am very please. I has Compaq before, and had customer service issue. My computer is only a couple of months old, so maybe that's why I am thinking its a great product.

That is so true. I have a Dell home computer and a laptop and now when my computer starts acting up I don't even bother with customer service. I have my own personal Geek sqad to go to about that.

Perhaps I should be more careful while buying a dell over my HP, after reading the mixed reviews. I think one of the major problems with dell pc's that I have heard from other dell users is the hard drive hangs up or crashes too often. this maybe be related to the non-seagate hard drive that they use.
Thanks

I think Dell computers are very cheap. I find their aftersales service so-so. I once had to order a computer cable for my laptop and they took so long in delivering it to me even though they charged me immediately. Also, the computer is now working terribly slow. I thought it was because my was a laptop but my sister who has a desktop has the same problem.

We've had Dell computers for years. Overall they've been very good computers. If I needed to buy another computer today, I would get another Dell. I've never had to call the customer service, but did have to call customer service about something else we have (not Dell related) and got someone in India I had trouble understanding and was of no help. At least with Dell, they moved all their customer service back from India. When you call, you do get someone in the US. I want to support that. We need to keep jobs here in the US!

I am plesantly surprised there's so much hatred for Dell computers.
I have 2 Dell laptops which I have been using for the past one and a half years. I had a loose hinge with one of the two laptops, but didn't want to void the warranty. So, I called the customer service people, they sent a technician the following day and rectified it at my office without any hassles.
My 2 laptops perform excelantly and I use them for data logging and real time analysis. My experience with their service is also very good.
Maybe I am one of the few lucky ones who got computers which work.
