global warming

Watching the news today they showed the extent of how the temperatures are rising and we are experiencing extreme weather conditions. I find it depressing that not enough is being done. The American Government state that to slow down climate change would effect the American economy. The British government just want to put higher taxes on plane flights etc. Is this really the way forward. What world are we leaving for our children. Although we can all play a part, its the fat cats who need to make the biggest changes. What are you doing to go green??

I switch off my appliances from the wall sockets, switch off lights. Reduce, Re-use and Recycle. Use as little hot water as possible. I don't have a car and I try and use a taxi as little as possible.

I find it interesting that joke books like The Kyoto Protocols demand that the US and Britain give up so much of our culture in the name of "global warming", but India and China are encouraged to continue poluting. Global Warming seems to know the difference between American and British greenhouse gasses and everyone else's. I also would like to know how it is that Humans are the "cause", when ever day nature spews more noxious gasses into the environment than we ever could. Yes, there are environmental changes going on, and yes, there are things we could do to reduce polution, but one has nothing to do with the other.

Thanks. I agree with you that India and China are going to become as bigger polluters as the rest of us. Its interesting to hear your comments. Cheers!!!

I think the problem is global and it is irrelevant what documents like these say. The world needs to wake up to see that these political arguments are not going to help this problem. Though I do understand from India and China's viewpoint - they need more power and industry to enhance their economies and doing the eco friendly way is going to slow the progress down. I think what is needed is for everybody to do what is possible. Why do you think us polluting the enivronment has nothing to do with global warming?

Why should China and India's economy be allowed to become huge eco problems at the expense of the US and other Western Culture nations? The reason I don't think our pollution does much in the way of global warming is, compared to nature, we don't pollute much. ~Has any manmade pollution ever darkened the sky of much of the US Great Northwest in one event? Nope! But Mount St Helens eruption back in 1980 did... and that was just one volcano... volcanos erupt every day. ~We all watched in horror as the Exxon Valdez dumped thousands of gallons into the Prince William Sound... yet the earth leaks 150-170 barrels of crude into the ocean off the coast of California alone... and that is every day! ~Millions of people travel to Yellowstone National Park to watch Old Faithful and other geysers errupt. Those geysers don't stink because the rangers don't brush Old Faithful's teeth, they stink because they are filled with Sulfur and other noxious gasses. Sure, the few geysers scattered around Yellowstone Park doesn't do much, but the thousands scattered around the Snake River area is massive. Now, none of this means that I think Mankind should just pollute, litter and run amok. Not because I think we are destroying the planet. My reasons are about economy, not ecology. How much of our GNP is spent doing things to counteract our own poluting ways? Nothing about the Kyoto joke book even considers the single most threatening aspect of pollution. In the long run, polluting bites into the bottom line.

I don't drive a car, I cycle most places although at the moment my child is young so I use the bus or public transport. I have done some insulating on my home, gotta lot more to do though. I also lowered the temperatures that I use for my colored washes to 30 degrees and my whites to 50, both were 10 degrees over. I also don't eat meat but this is because I don't agree with the cruelty involved in mass production. I believe an incidental effect is that meat consumption highers harmful gases. Its good that we are finally copping on to what needs to be done -- but is it too late? I fear that it may be.

I don't eat meat either, because of this. I am sure that by becoming aware and making some changes it could have an impact, even in just slowing down the strain on natural resources. I agree with you that it may be too late. There are so many conflicting views, who do we believe. Cheers!!!!

global warming - global warming
The Earth has had cooling and warming cycles for all it's 4 billion years. The ice ages were cooling periods and between them were the warming periods. This is a natural cycle of the planet, it happened before all the tech. It will keep happening! We puny humans can't stop it, and we can't slow either. All this stuff is total BS!

Thanks for your comments. Do you think we are being conned into believing we can make a difference. I am going to watch the film made by Al Gore. Have you seen it?
27 Dec 06
Thanks for explaining that. I am no expert on global warming so any information is welcome. Cheers!!!

there is the natural cycle, but before there was not this much green house gases and pollution created by humans. We are destroying natural resources everyday.
