We write to express ourself better and others to feel and understand what u want to express. However many times it is difficult to keep the reader engaged for the entire length of the write up and in the process fail to communicate our ideas.
SO Please provide tips on how we may hold the readers attention irrespective of, the topics written, the length? What could be done in terms of style?

I feel a lot of the time, it does not depend on quantity of the words they are trying to portray in an Article, or topio they want to discuss. I have seen Good and Bad with both lengths here here. I guess you decide what is appropriate and then go from there. Just as long as you are portraying what you want to do.

Hmm... I don;t think so it's about the length.. because sometimes me as a reader.. when I found very long long write.. than I'll skip it witout read it :P
The most important is the TITLE.. if you can make the title that can make the reader feel curious about your writing.. than you made that ^^
And the second.. about the style.. if you made for business people.. than you must make your written in formal style.. but if you want young people read that.. than you written it in unformal style ^^
I am not writer.. but at least that is my opinion as a reader.. hope it will helkp you ^^

i think the best tip i can give you is to write simply and clearly. avoid using long and high-falutin words that the average reader could not understand. my professors even tell us to write in order for a fourth-grader to understand what we want to get across. in short, you should consider your average reader as the ten-year-old. however, you wouldn't want to act too generally though. i think the best writers know their readers well. we should be sensitive to what our readers feel and how they think.
another thing i'd like to suggest is to add interesting details to your piece. for example, if you write that you saw a girl walking down the street, that won't catch the reader's attention. but if you write that you saw curly-blond haired girl dressed in a yellow flowered sundress walking down the street, it's more likely for you to catch your readers attention.

Well, use simple words. short sentences. Bombarstic words are very boring.
Take a look at my poem in my thread -- WRITERS' CORNER. This poem has inspired a lady pal to write a book. SMILE :D

I m not a write, but in my opinion you should make little research what the things that your reader really want. i mean here when you want write an article, i believe you already knowing what kind reader that you wish to read your articles right? so by knowing your reader type that you want to reach, it will be easy for you to determine interesting topic for them :)

well, i think you have to be a little creative in your sentences. i, myself, wouldn't want to read a sentence that is so conventional, you know, so structured, to say the least. be creative with words and keep your sentences short. long sentences will make you lose your readers. good luck!

Think of what you like when you read a book or story you like...does the author add some humor? does he write with a sense of humor? does he catch you attention right off? Does he use big words, or does he sound like he's just talking to you? I love what I call and easy read...to me that's something that is interesting and keeps my attention, but is so well-written it just flows and is easy to read...not sure how to explain what I mean. Then there are authors I really have to pay a lot of attention to, and some I feel I need to have a dictionary at my elbow to get through the chapter. Those types tend to lose my interest quickly. I just want them to say what they have to say legibly and keeping it interesting. I also hate a writer that starts so many individual story lines that you have to keep track of, that I find myself flipping back and thinking..now who was that? and what did he have to do with it?

Personally, I think it's just pure luck. It all depends on the person, if they wish to reply to your discussion.

first of all choose any topic and make it hot and effective enough to raise interest. then try cconcentrating on stlye keep the words simple and use frequent refferals that are common, lighten with quotes from famous ones or from movies.
