Yes, hunger strike used to be the best way to protest. This is the method started by none other than our father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi. He did it without any other intentions but to get the nation free from the clutches and for other issues and he did this without any other intentions, but these days it is done by the politicians for self-gain rather than any other reason. It has been followed as a gimmick to gain political mileage and to get sympathy from the voters and get votes from them this way.

Ti fight from the non-violence way we need better stability both physically and mentally. So I don't think fasting for around 22 days with only water can provide you stability, it will rather unstable you and your ophysical health deteriotes.I would never go to hunger strike while protesting anything..I would rather go for other non-violence way..

Do you think its possible to stay without food for 19 days. Be logical. Obviously they should eat something in the backscreens.
I feel non-violence is the best way to protest. I am sure you know about Gandhiji's non violence protest. It helped to wipe out Britishers Out of INDIA. So i feel non-violence will have more power than hunger-strike.
I feel hunger strike will be a good method of protest for college students when their mess food is of poor quality...As we do it...LOL

Hunger strike - who reaps the result - the person who started may be the minister. What happens to the supporters they will have to go back home walking while the minister whoever started will have cars to go home. Is this democracy - freedom of speech or freedom of food - the whole world is travelling in this enormous ship - democracy - no meaning. Compared to democracy - look at United Arab Emirates - it has a Sheikdom comprising with Sheikhs - first their aim is their people, everyone of them are looked after from education to a healthy living, they love their country and look to what heights they have reached. They love all the overseas nationals they work for them, they have the liberty to enjoy life the way they want, you can purchase the most latest racing care one of the sheikhs may not have, the government will not come after your tail and ask from where did you get the money. It is a heaven and freedom to live in this country because there is no democracy or this stupid strikes which most of the time end killing innocent people, burning or destroying state runned buildings.

Ahimsa Satayagraha is a good practice if done for a cause. But adament movement will lead towards isolation. Ms. Banerjee must realise the order of the day.

there are a lot of people from indonesia who also do that. then even sew their mouth! they end up in the hospital, and who will pay for the hospital bill? the government? I totally disapprove every method of protest that hurt oneself. protests, I think can be made without having to hurt anyone, especially the protester him/herself.

I think it is unhealthy, but I am with the courage that MAMTA has. I think a good way to protest is by noise barrage, so that everybody can hear your point or message. Organizing a concert, sharing your massage will be as good as well.

I think it depends on the situation what the best form of protesting is, and it also depends on who you are protesting and the type of people you are dealing with!

I don't think a hunger strike is the way to go. Why debilitate your health to try to make a point? Try is you are a politician to get some bills passed that would help the farmers. What will you gain by a hunger strike?

There are many other ways to protest.Hunger strike is a total foolishness.I mean the person who is doing hunger strike for the goodwill/concern of certain set of people, shud ask the people to do the same for him/her.Also the govt/owners shud not come into the centiments of such strikes. It is a indefinite way of blackmailing aginst costing life.It shud be banned totally.

I do not think that hunger strike is the best way to response. Now this is my opinion. Nowadays any kind of strikes are not a good way to response. A strike means people won't go to work. And if this happens then the economy will go down. If people doesn't work then the country can't progress. That's one of the main reasons why India is lagging behind. If you see the developed countries they have the least strikes. If u want to solve a problem then solve it diplomatically. Strike will for nothing bring down the economy. If we stop working we are not only harming the economy of the country but also harming ourselves. So we should do debates and talks and discussions, and whoever is proven right will take the decision of what to do.
