Madness for boosting sales in the name of security

I recently went to a multiplex in a suburban place near Mumbai called Nallasopara. To my utter dismay, I found a peculiar security protocol over there. They did my body search, told I cannot carry a cigarette packet inside. I agreed to deposit that in their counter. Next in my bag, there was a water bottle, they did not allow me to carry that inside. Later I found, someone else was carrying a water bottle, she was allowed. On enquiry, I came to know – if the bottle was purchased from their restaurant then they would have allowed it inside. I had an asthama patient with me, even after repeated request, the manager of the security team did not allow us inside. My question is how can such a rule be imposed in a public place? What is happening in India? Why the government inspectors allow such dirty means of business tricks to continue? Have you ever come across such systems, please speak out in this discussion.

I am trying to understand--do you think the government is doing this, or do you think it is the government inspector's job to stop this? This happens at all kinds of events, and theme parks in the US, but not with body searches. It is true that if you buy these necessities inside it will cost at least three times the value, and that is one way the event or the business makes money. A lot of places still are required to have public drinking fountains in that case. I do not know if that is true in India. I am confused about why the asthma patient was excluded--was it because of necessary medication? Sorry to hear about this difficult circumstance. I think that place would get none of my business if I could help it.

This happens sometimes though.. and it is quite terrible... when one person starts doing it.. the others follow.. I don't think the Government has anything to do with this but anyway... they should at least consider this problem in the community.. it's tearing the good culture apart

I have not been to India, and have not yet encountered that kind of sale boosting, but if i did and its a public area, I would go to the trouble of complaining to the proper authority, like the municipal office or whoever is suppose to correct it, If I cannot afford the trouble, I submit, otherwise do not patronise the market.

In India municipal office is one of the worst corrupted place. These things happenm because they have a cut in that money for them too. I think the owner should be held responsible for desservice and may be yopu can complaint in consumer court against him.

But as far as I know in the house of law, you need to produce evidence, how should I do that?

Folks will do anything to maximise profits. That's the shame of modern life. As for security, isn't it fear and modification of your lifestyle that the terrorists want to achieve? By refusing to change your day to day habits you actually frustrate them. That is where they actually exist, all too often terrorists are in the mind of the public because of the fear that the Government wish to foster, that provides the will for additional public spending on security and controls.

Right you are. Actually, this is also another way of capitalising the fear to increase business profit.

yes, actually when we go to sporting events or anything like a concert for entertainment purposes, we can not bring any outside drinks inside. If we want to drink something we have to buy it in side and it is usually 3 times more expensive. I think it is more for to help their business in being able to still make a living inside when the concert is going or a sport is being played, that way they can make their money since all the ticket proceeds go to the athletes or the entertainers and none go to the place where it is being held. THey say it is for security measures but I doubt it.

dear Morelo, I too have the same question. Thanks for understanding me. I have purchased ticket with my money for watching the movie. Water is also called 'Life'. Why they should oppose carrying that inside. Especially, when it is a matter of life to an asthma patient? In the Fun Fiesta Multiplex of Nallasopara, Thane District, Maharashtra, India, it has been going on, and the local authorities are silent. Even inside their complex, they cannot impose such rules. If it is allowed, tomorrow they will kill someone and say inside our private area, we can kill anyone. Is that acceptable? Local public need to boycot the mall. I also invite the journalists of India to take up with such issues.

i have seen it happened and I take care not to carry anything to such a place if I know such things would be prohibited..i know such restrictions could be disturbing for some people..but they are imposed after careful considerations..I am sure there must be reasons substantial enough to do so considering the public discomfort..so u just have to follow the rules sometimes..

That's just stupid! Here they don't do anything like it. There isn't even security. If someone decides to blow himself up in there, they won't even notice before it's too late.

Exactly so. Moreover, I do not think any terrorist will go to a suburb to blow up a mall leaving the crowded main city. Unless the owner of the premises is in fault.

I have heard this for the first time. But govt. cannot do anything here. Rules are imposed by the private owners. But clearly, these are just tricks to boost there sale that's it. If you do not like it, just don't go there; that was not the last multiplex in the world, was it? Just go to another one....
