Jesus is the reason for the season and have a Christmas tree in the chapel of the church? It is kind of a conflict of interest to me.

Why is it a conflict? Sure, the tree is from Pagan custom, but so is the Hail Mary and the celebration of Easter (Easter comes from Istar--and the whole eggs and grass business is from ancient fertility rite.)
Christians often wear crosses, which according to Christianity is a sin (they are icons or idols after all).
Ash Wednesday comes from pagan ceremony.
Genuflecting and doing the sign of the cross comes from Mithras worship.
Sunday is named for the Sun
Monday is named for the moon
Wednesday is named for Woden (Odin)
Thursday is named for Thor
Friday is also named for a God.
Christmas is celebrated on Saturnalia, an ancient Roman holiday, and the fact of the matter is Christ was probably born in another time of year.
The true Sabbath is from friday night to saturday night.
Saturday in Spanish is "Sabbado"--same root.
Point is this. Most religions, if not all, directly contradict themselves. Worry about the message, huh? If you call yourself a Christian, then do your best to emulate Christ--that is to Love, to have faith, to lead by example, to be as nonjudgmental as possible.

No judgements here, just opinions needed and some clarifications. I was raised Mormon and we didn't put a christmas tree up in our sanctuary nor did we have a sign outside our church that said "Jesus is the reason for the season". I am truly just curious in what other people think of it. Some people talk about the commercialization of Christmas and to me, the christmas tree doesn't signify anything but the modern spin on christmas. Thank you for the information you have given me and for your knowledgeable response.

It is not a conflict. In 2004, Pope John Paul II gave his message about the Feast of Christmas. In it, he spoke about the ancient tradition of the Christmas tree. It exalts the value of life, as in winter the evergreen becomes a sign of undying life. The tree is decorated and Christmas gifts are placed under it. The symbol of the tree reminds us of the "tree of life" (Genesis 2:9) a representation of Christ, god's supreme gift to humanity. The message of the Christmas tree is that life is "ever green" if you give of yourself in friendship and sincere affection, and fraternal help and forgiveness in shared time and reciprocal listening. http://www.catholic.org/featured/headline.php?ID=1631
