Ring Ring.... My cell phone rang, it was a call from dad and i thought it was just another call to check up on me like where i was or to do some work, yeah thats what i thought. As i answered the phone dad said to reach hospital as my sister has met with an accident. I shut down the computer, put on some t-shirt and ran towards the door. As i started driving towards the hospital a rage of thoughts ran through my mind like what has happen, how has happen, what will happen , nothing serious, and the most dreaded one NOT A HEAD INJURY. I drove as fast as i could and nearly missing a accident myself. As i reached the hospital, i parked my bike and rushed to the emergency only to see my sister lying flat on a streached and my mother standing over her consoling her, my father was looking for a doctor i guess. As i reached I checked up on my sis and was grateful to see that there was no blood in sight near her, it was sort of a relief. then my mom told my that they were hit my a car as they were turning and she was alright with a little bruises here and there. But i saw a swelling on my sis head, my worst fear came true. There was this huge bump on her head and the doc has recommended a X-ray and a CT scan. Dad has shown up by that time with some medicines the doc has recommended and a couple of injections. The nurse injected with her and off we went to the X-ray room. The time was around 2:00 in the afternoon and time for the next shift to arrive and the previous one to leave. But the next shift was late by half hour (no surprise in a govt. hospital) and the lady in the X-ray room refused to X-ray my sis as her time of duty was over. I think this was the last straw on me I just flipped and went ballistic on the nurse and so my father. We decided to go to a private hospital, sure the cost would be more but who cared. Then my mother went to the nurse and urged her to take the X-ray as there was no other patient waiting but she refused and a man in the X-ray room started yelling at my mom. The nurse called the security and the chief of security was called as other patients joined in with us saying that a head injury is a serious matter and should be given proirity, but still the man and the nurse would not do their job instead they picked up their coats and went home. Then my dad went to the EMO (emergency medical officer) and he came to the X-ray room and heard what we had to say and he then took the X-ray. Then came the CT scan that was east as it was empty and we went in and out in like 10 minutes. But it was the easy part that was over the hard part the RESULTS was still to come. We showed the CT scan to the doc and then he said the two sweetest words "She's Fine" i have ever heard. A sense of relief came to everyones mind. Now was the wait for the X-ray results but it did not matter we sat there patiently and waited for 2 hours but it was OK. Then I suddenly had a respect for Others waiting in or coming in the emergency and i just thought " LIFE IS PRECIOUS"

In India many hospitls are like that and sadly you can not fight the system. There is no authority here where you can report the matter and get aquick action so many people do not report these.

That is so true. Sometimes it takes an emergency to remind us of that.

I have experience this as a paramedic, I arrive to the hospital with a real emergency and they just walking arround and I said to the doctors and nurses "hello I have someone here and needs help" I think if I say "doctor Here is your mother or your son", how they will act insted, running like it should be with anyone, Life is precious, extremely valuable, I am happy to know she's all right.

Thank you for sharing this story. Many of us have lived through simular nightmares to some extent in emergency rooms and even with doctors. They take tests that can have life-changing results but they take their own sweet time letting you know about it. It is frustrating and irritating to say the least. Doctors and nurses need to be more sensitive to the concerns of patients. If they would just put themselves in our shoes for the moment, they would understand. I think because many hospitals are understaffed and many hospital staff workers put in long hours, they become numb to what is going on around them. They must get a clue.

That is a very scary way to come to that realization. You're so right, life is precious and we should cherish it. I'm sorry you and your family (especially your sister!) had to go through this, and thank God your sister is going to be okay.

glad your sister's alright. it's so pathetic to think that some medical aides are indifferent in emergency cases such as these. how can they be so insensitive.

Ya......Life is precious......you felt only after the situation came to your family........when we are happy and passing by the hospital, you feel pity but not caring that time.........As long as everyone doesn't feel life is precious this will be going on.

I think that you are acting certain, therefore always you have that to follow its desires and thoughts. Desire that reach its objective and that everything is certain.

Life IS precious. Someone spends years living their life and it could be gone in a second! What is bothering me though is how stubborn the doctors are. So what if you dont get paid over time SOMEONE MIGHT DIE! If i ever saw this behavior Id feel like making the doctor need an x-ray....
