How long do you leave your tree up after Christmas if you put one up!?

Christmas Tree - a real or fake one adorns many a household and the traditions that surround it can vary with the family and geographical area. Even Country!

We tend to take our down the day of New Years. Since we have a fake one which is fiber optics it is not so much of a rush for us, however, if you have a real one then how long before it makes too much of a mess?

We usually put ours up around the first week of December then take it down on Jan 1st. (It's a fibre-optic one so it goes back in the box in the attic with the other decorations etc) Like someone said earlier, I dont think I turned it on after christmas day (I think we forgot to switch it on on xmas day too!) I'm certainly not sad when it comes down. By that time I'm always sick of the clutter in the house. I love to get it all cleared away and give the house a good spring cleaning, it makes the place feel so fresh and minimalist!

holiday clutter - we strive for order in our lives and oh to have a professional come in for only a week!!
Wow, spring cleaning at this time of year. I guess it makes sense since I will be preparing to garden when it is spring. We kinda let the lights be too. Ours went back into the box also and somehow we ended up with an extra box of decorations. Not sure how that happened LOL

Sure thing. Also it is like a puzzle to put them back. Gets the season to hold a tiny bit longer. Glad to have given it to you.

It is strange that they never fit back into the same boxes and bags that you get them out of, and need extra space to be stored again isn't it! lol Thanks for the best response.

Yeh, that is very similar. I don't put much into decorating and getting into the glitz of Christmas. I focus more on the Holy holiday it is.

spiral Christmas Tree - trees are becoming diverse and getting taylored to peoples lives
Not familiar with a spiral tree! The ease of putting up and taking down is a good factor for this too busy world we are living in. Is this picture like what you have?? Thanks for responding to my discussions!!

We have an artificial tree too, so I usually don't take it down til the week after new years. This year we took it down early because we have a puppy that was taking the ornaments of the tree and trying to eat them.

holiday doggie - our pets are great companions and we tend to them especially on holiday occasions
Our pets sure do make our holidays and day to day life interesting. Hope the puppy didn't quite make it to eat one! Thanks for responding!!

well this is the first year I had my own tree. Usually my mom did all the taking down. But I am not sure when we will take our tree down. I really don't want to do it by myself but my fiance works all the time so he is tired when he gets home. Plus we are moving at the end of the month so hopefully before then!!

taking down the Christmas tree - the season goes by so fast, it can be understandable when someone leave it up for a bit longer time.
Good luck with the moving!! It is great that you two share the taking down of the tree. I hope he helped you put it up too!!

We wanted to take the tree down, we have a fake one, but it is kind of hard right now. For the past few days, my daughter has been sick. She gets up in the middle of the night and will just cry and it takes forever for her to go back to sleep. About the second night, she asked me if I would turn on the Christmas lights, on the tree. She is going to be three soon. So I turned them on and she stopped crying. For some reason, the Christmas tree all light up seemed to help. We are going to wait until she is feeling better to take it down.

I know how she feels, I too feel a calm when the lights are lit. Ours blink too. Hope she feels better real soon for all your sakes!!!

By the second week of January. Our garbage company won't haul it away free any later than that. Also by that time, the tree lets out a very strong dry pine smell, so when that happens, I know it's time for the tree to go.

trash day for the Christmas tree - many, many people dispose of their tree through the trash/garbage system. Wonder how many end up in the landfills. They are quite chippable and usable!!
That is something I miss is the pine smell! Not sure where you live, but could you put it out for the wild critters to find shelter in like at the back of the property or on a fence row?

I will wait until the day after New Years day, I put it up the Wednesday before Christmas but the boys kep climbing it and its looking very shabby, so I'm afraid it'll go in the bin this time.

Rambunctious boys you must have there. Was it a sythetic tree? A live one would have given them pine stains and smell! Glad you could spend time with your family.

We always use real trees in our home, love the smell and it stays up until the Feast of the Three Kings. It is not celebrated by most here in the states but my mom's family always celebrated it back home so she has passed on the tradition to us.

We usually take our tree down on January 1 of the new year. We like to buy a real tree because it makes the house smell nice. Once we take it down, we take it to one of the recycling centers near us. They are used to be taken to the beach and piled up to create sand dunes.

recycling the Christmas tree - a good thing has been started in recent times which is recycling the Christmas tree. Actually old folk used to take their tree out to the fencerow and leave it there for the critters to use for cover. Or sunk in the pond for cover for fish to hide from herons and the like
That is a good thing to do and a good thing comes from it. The dune are a great thing to have and to have something that they can be supported with is the best thing.

Our tree normally stays up until just after the New Year. But since the new year is on Monday...I am wondering if I want to take it down this weekend. But I can say that I have never taken it down before the New Year.

We are the same as you. We usually take our tree down around New Years. I usually don't seem to light it up after Christmas day though. It seems odd to me once Christmas is over. I just hate to take it down. It always makes me sad. I love the holiday time and I hate when it ends. It is kind of a let down.

twas the day after Christmas - the after Christmas let down is different for each of us.
I feel like you though by Christmas night I am thinking whew, it is over. The holidays are so much fun and we wait all year that we get caught up in it and before we know it, it is over.

Well, I actually didn't get one up this year. But in the years that I did put one up, I took it down on January 1st. I too have an artificial one. Once in awhile we get a real one but it comes down the same day, we just don't put it up as soon as we would a fake one.

gifts on a table - some people do not have a Christmas tree and if gifts are exchanged then I imagine they are put upon a table.
Sorry to hear that you had no tree this year. Even though space is in short supply here we got one of the Fiber Optic little trees that WalMart had a year ago. I imagine your gifts were put on a table. Anyway, I hope you still had a nice Christmas!

We also use a fake one - we usually take it down after the 1st of the year because we are so busy after X-mas. We still have ours up but will probably take it down tomorrow, the 1st.

We usually take our tree down the day after New Years too. This year however we have just been so busy we still haven't gotten around to taking it down yet. Hopefully, we will this weekend. And we have an artifical tree by the way.

I am guilty of having been one of those people that leaves their tree up for months after Christmas. Once it got left up until after St. Patrick's day. For the last few years though I have been making sure the tree comes down about a week after the New Year. My tree is just one of the regular fake ones that I have to put the lights on which takes time. By the time the tree is supposed to come down I am tired of messing with it. Not to mention I am the only one in my house that is willing to take off the ornaments and wrap them. If my family had it their way they would probably just take the tree ornaments and all and stuff it into the garage.

we usually take down our tree after New Year's eve... i am usually the one in charge of putting it back in the box because we don't have a real one here in the Philippines. we only have a fake one here that's why there's no worry of when we are going to take it down and put it in the box so that it would be used again the next Christmas eve...

When the tree comes down varies greatly. When my son was young and playing hockey. With 2-3 games a week and 2 practices and 2 nights a week at the tutors...we really did not worry about how long the tree was up. What amazes me, is how I love when the tree goes up, it looks so nice and decorative, but I love it even more when the tree goes down, the room looks so much cleaner and bigger..I guess Christmas trees are like double edged swords in this way.
