Why do people start collections?

Many people collect something wheter its stamps, coins, or cars. What is the reason for people to collect things especially things with no use. Bottlecaps are trash but some people collect them why do you think this is? Do you collect things? If so what do you collect?

I like to collect things in the hopes it will be worth money one day. I the past, I have collected Sports cards, coins, and even ceramic cows. I used to collect music memorabilia and recently its Movies. I spend a few minutes at the walmart $5.50 dvd section. I cant help myself

People have way too much time on their hands. If I'm collecting something, it's purely accidental.
