Ok I have to admit I have a myspace, I got the page when my two teenager daughters made one the stipulation was that they had to add me to there list so that I could keep an eye on what they were doing. Well this past week there came out a "burn" page for my oldests high school and she was on it with some nasty remarks about her and the whole cheerleading squad. It was a mean and hateful page totally making fun of and trashing and slandering kids from the school. Word got to the Principal of the school and he called the myspace webmaster and had it removed. My question is do you have a myspace and what do you think about these types of "burn" pages being generated?

i do not have a myspace and will never get one.
myspace is a waste. so many people spend hours on it, and for what? to keep in touch with friends? that's what the phone is for. that's what email is for. i could see it being for friends that don't live near you, but it's getting out of control. plus, you have the perverts on there, too.

But to those that use it, it is like a neatly packaged program that allows them to do email, IM, chat, etc..all in one little place. It allows them massive networking capability, and it also allows them to make a nice creative and sometimes even artistic space for themselves; so, this becomes intriguing and appealing especially in the teen market.
You are right though, there are lots of trolls and perverts on the internet in general. It makes no difference if it's myspace, yahoo messenger, MSN messenger, AOL, and even here at myLot--there are always going to be the less desirables who are trolling around for trouble. That's why as parents we have to monitor our children, but many parents are very inactive when it comes to being involved on every level of their child's life.

I see this all the time in the freelance writing business. It happens to be a big issue. Too many people are wishing to cut corners to produce their websites and they go and outsource their writing to someone who is not a competent writer, but will write for $1.00/article, which is lowballing the business. The proper rate for that type of work is way higher, and because we have so many willing to write for pennies, they also contribute alot of waste to the internet. They produce garbage, and much of it has not been researched, so then you have invalid content floating around the internet.

I haven't really had any experience with this since I don't have any teenage kids! :) However, I have two pages of my own and I have fund with it, but I am an adult so I don't have to "watch over" anyone like you! :) I feel for parents these days, especially regarding myspace and the worries with it. I totally understand your worries. :)

I have a myspace, but I'm also 22. I only use it to keep in contact with people I went to high school with or just friends I meet at concerts. But in all reality, you can't take the Internet too seriously. If you're getting upset over little stuff on the Internet, it just makes you even more vulnerable.

Anything aimed at hurting someone else is wrong. My friend's 13 year old niece has a myspace page that says she is 15. She also has it set to private. The mom couldn't care less but the aunt is really worried. She has no idea what to do since she is not the mother and has no legal rights. Yes I think it is out of hand. It was a good concept, but lacks a system of checks and balances.

I have a myspace page. I'm a 30 y/o married wanna-be musician so I use it more for networking and connecting with my old high school friends.
Anyhoo, I think those typed of flamed pages can easily be reported and removed. I'm sure they violate the terms of agreement.

I have a page, but I think I am old enough that I don't have to worry about the petty childish acts of teenagers. The only teen I have on my page is my little sister and in a few days she technically won't even be a teen anymore. What some of these kids need is some good old fashioned discipline their parents have let them get away with everything and didn't bother to teach the little brats any manners which then makes them think they can treat people like they do.

I am old enough with young enough kids that I have not run into any burn pages. It is sad that people feel the need to tear others down in order to build themselves up. I would be upset if nsaty tihngs were being said about any of my girls. I know myspace has a hard time keeping a handle on things with all of the various users it has. It is a plus that they had the page taken down. I do have a myspace page. It is used to keep in touch with old & new friends.

I think they are, there has should be some sort of limit as to what people can do with it. They should have to obey laws any way and to me that seems like it against the law.

My son recently signed up for my space, plus he has friends and relatives also on my space,he is 18 years old,a lot of times when I am on my computer,he comes and asks me if he can check his my space page to see if he has any messages. If I am close he will wait until I move away from the computer.I have noticed that some tv celebrities say that the have a page on my space.it seems to be a popular site these days,it is probably just a matter of time that it will get out of control and they will have to get very strict with the site,I have noticed that since my son has signed up with my space, that he is on the computer until very late at night, sometimes when I go to be he is on there.maybe I should check it out to see what has captured his attention so much.I have to run him off of my computer sometimes,so that I can use it.

Those pages can get peopl in legal hot water as well. They are right to remove them. I was going to try myspace but its not like it was before to much craziness with half naked pics and the language.

I have a myspace to promote my music but I think the myspace craze is amazing. I mean there are all kinds of peolpe on there but some of it is wrong. Like the older men who I see talking to these young girls, that aspect of it is disgusting but all in all aside from that is a cool lil site.

I gave up on myspace. I've had it with the whole idea of having friends that don't even talk to you. I think the whole thing is a waste of time.
