Fan Fictions-Have you heard of them? Do you read or write them?

I would say in the last 4 or 5 months I discovered them and have been reading them. I wrote a couple of Hex and American Gothic fan fictions. Fan fiction is where someone writes about their favorite characters from a tv show/movie/games/cartoons and put their own twist to it. This is how I define fan fictions. I've been reading a lot of Harry Potter lately. I've read a couple of Pirates of the Caribbean as well. What kind do you like to read?

I read a lot of fan fiction, mostly based on anime. However, once in a while I do read some based on other TV shows or movies that I really like. I have only written one fan fiction in my life, and it was a very short one. It wasn't so much a whole story as a single scene, a conversation I felt should have happened between two characters that never happened in the anime (which was Hana Yori Dango, titled Boys Over Flowers I think in the US). If I read fanfiction, it tends to be details of the lives of minor characters that amuses me the most. I often become really fond of characters that aren't the main ones of a series, so stories that flesh out those characters better really interest me.

I tend to write ficlets or drabbles. And those are just missing scenes from the show. At some point I would like to write my own story based off of the characters, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

I love harry potter fanfiction, i write it to, i'm working on one now, its suppose to be my own version of what book 7 will be like. I dont think they're any good but i love writing them and thats all that matters. I am and harry/ginny and ron/hermione shipper all the way although i like to read ones about hermione or ginny hooking up with Draco Malfoy, who is hott as hell by the way. =)

I enjoy some fan fiction. I treat them the same as any other story. If it interests me I will read it. I mean I wouldn't read any fan fiction about comics because I don't read comics anyways. I have read some about Charmed and Harry Potter most recently. I have read some about Cagney and Lacey as well. I think they are interesting. You can really tell if the author is a big fan or not. I don't expect anything near as good as the original but it does amaze me to see just how well fans know these characters. It is the little things in a characters personality that really make the story for me. those are the first thingks I notice when they go against the character. i don't think I would ever try to write one, but you never know.

I was at first, a little weary about reading them. I've heard a lot of negative comments about them. But, I've read some pretty good ones. I'm with you, that you can tell which writers are real big fans by the way they write the story and characters. I wrote a few, short ones, but I find that I like reading them more than writing them. Thanks for responding.

I used to write fanfiction a long time ago. Well not really a long time ago, but it's been awhile since I've had the chance to update or write any more stories. They started becoming really popular. I like reading Harry Potter stories myself.

I have read alot of fan fiction on the Auel page. It has a lot of good ones about Ayla and the Clan of the Cave Bear and goes in directions that the books didn't. There were a couple of people there who were so descriptive and great with the continuity that I swear they could get published if they came up with their own characters. I've read one or two Harry Potter ones, too. I think they are great if you have a favorite series and are getting impatient waiting for the next book to be released! It's usually YEARS between Jean Auel's books, and the site takes the edge off a bit, lol!

I have known bout fanfic for years, and I've been sort of a casul reader. In the past couple of months I have started writing my own fic. I only write for Buffy the vampire slayer, specifically for the buffy/faith pairing. Most of what I read is femslash. Besides buffy/faith I read: paris/rory-gilmore girls, spencer/ashley-south of nowhere and olivia/alex-svu. I've found some phenomenal stuff but i've also found some total **** it can be really variable. famfic is great for exploring aspects of characters that didn't get enough time on the show, or was too controversial to ever appear on television. it's also great for continuing series that have already ended.

I wrote a few fanfiction stories for That 70s Show. They are at fanfiction.com I think. The third one isn't finished yet. I guess I lost my steam once the show was over. I'll finish it someday, though.

I've been reading fanfiction for years. Right now, I mainly read stories based on House, Numb3rs, and Criminal Minds. I also read a lot of Sherlock Holmes fanfiction. I've written some stories, but I haven't lately. I mainly get ideas by wondering what happened in missing scenes in episodes.

Yep. I have read and I have written fanfiction. It's a good way to learn to write if that's something you are interested in. Helps flex the imagination. And you can "push" the limits in fanfiction. See what works and what doesn't.

That's what I was thinking. I'm going through a "dry-spell" with my original fiction so I've been writing fan fic to help.

I've known about fanfiction for years, and have read fan fic about many series. Most recently I think that I was reading through some Harry Potter fanfic, and just the other day I was thinking about looking up some more good fanfic about some other shows that I like. It's difficult at times to find really well-written fan fiction, though, but when you find a really good author some of the stories are even better written than the real ones! *laugh* I think that it's cool that you've written some fanfic yourself. I only once started work on a fanfic idea, but I had totally forgotten about that until you just now reminded me, lol! I never got anywhere with it. I used to write poetry and songs and all kinds of things, and worked on an original story once, but fan fic never really got off the ground for me in terms of writing it. Ah well. ^_^ You should share some of the best Harry Potter fanfic that you've found on here! Links to it.. it would be great to be able to find some really good ones! ^_^

I do read a lot of fanfics especially on harrypotterfanfiction.com...and I love reading them..bt the only problem I realized was that I was goofin up between wat was a fic and what really happened...I started believing that Ron and Hermione did actually go out together..but then I read the whole series again to only realize that they didn't.
