Grandson has the Flu

Yesterday we celebrated our family Christmas. My son, his fiance, and their two youngest children could not attend because the 1 1/2 year old was running a temperature. The older two children came to open presents. They were also not feeling well. They were coughing and looked quite pale. The left shortly after opening their gifts.
I received a call from my DIL advising that the 1 1/2 year old has Influenza type A. She brought him to the emergency room at 2 a.m. with a 104 temp.
We now have to wait until the older two get into the doctors for a test to see if they too have the flu. IF they test positive, everyone that they came in contact with yesterday needs to have flu medication.
Had we known that the older two were not feeling well, I would have asked them not to come.
Please remember that if you or someone in your immediate family is ill, do not take them around other people. This promotes the possibility of others becoming ill as well. If you are feeling poorly and think it may be flu, call your doctor.

Hi.. if we find any kind of flu or any kind of diseases which is somewhat similar it is always better to consult with a doctor.. otherwise, lot of problems may arise. may be we think that if we dont show up a doctor, he will become ok in a couple of days, but that is a wrong assumption. it is always good to get good advise from a doctor . So whenever you face with some problems, show up the doctor.

I just called to see how he was doing. He napped for several hours and is being a little cranky. Running a fever will do that to you. Poor lil' bugger.

I'm sorry to hear that your grandchildren are sick. My son just got over the flu right before Christmas. I kept him away from the others in the house as much as possible and he to had to take the flu medication. Over half of his school was out the week before Christmas with the flu and other viruses. Hope yall will be well again soon!

While I was employed at a high school, it amazed me at how many kids would show up sneezing and coughing. I was of course the first person that greeted them. I was the attendance clerk.

Poor baby! I hope those of you who were exposed have strong immune systems or a flu shot or both. We seem to have this tough it out mentality, and do not stay at home and in bed like we should. People forget that flu can even be a killer. Good topic.

Neither of us have had a flu shot. We don't have insurance for it and can't afford to pay for it out of pocket.

We have so much to accomplish this week. Getting the flu will not be a good thing.

You would be surprised at how many do not use common sense when they are ill.

I hope the other two do not have the flu. But, more than likely they will have it as well.

What a horrible way for the kids to spend Christmas! Actually, I'm sure that it was horrible for everybody. I don't know why people insist on going out or going to work (or sending their kids out) when they are sick. Common sense tells us that this will only spread the germs and get everyone else ill. I hope that everyone is feeling better soon. I'm just curious- did anyone get a flu shot? The shot protects against the most common strains of flu, but not all.

My son had the flu right before Christmas. They wont do anything for it. They can't. If you have the flu they can't/wont do anything for it. It has to run its course. I have a daughter as well, who got sick, but not the flu, just a mild cold. I kept both my kids home and away from people. The flu is awful on kids. I hope your grandchildren will be okay. My son is doing better. It takes time. Lots of rest.

My DIL said that if her two older kids are dianosed with this, the doctor said that we need to get flu medication immediately because it is highly contageous. There is a medicine that you can take.

Oh I am so sorry to hear. That stuff is awful!
Here in my house first rule when sick, STAY AWAY! A couple of years ago, all four of us had the flu and thank goodness we managed to keep it here in the house. I would have felt so bad if we passed it on to our Mothers and family. That stuff is terrible!

I remember when at least 3 out of the 4 kids came down with illness. Not a nice thing to have happen. Your body is so tired from playing nurse that you could sleep for days. But being the mom...you are deprived of rest.

I hope that everyone starts feeling well, this is a very good topic to discuss, I am scared to go out in public and take my 5 month old daughter out b/c im scared that people who have the flu will still go out.

One of our granddaughters ended up having flu, too. She had been at our house 24 hours when she complained of feeling sick and started throwing up. No one would have ever guessed when she came that she was sick. So far none of us have come down with it, but we've all had our flu shots which hopefully will help.
Any time you're around children you face the possibility that they've picked up something that isn't showing yet. The best way to stay healthy during the winter months is to stay away from children all together.

I agree with you... regarding influenza, starting 7monts old and up you can get a shot so you wont catch it... some shots are good for 1 year... then just take another shot after a year...
