Email flier claims drinking cold water after a meal slows down digestion and coats the intestines with 'sludge,' leading to cancer.. Cold Water= CANCER Drinking cold water after meal= Cancer! (this is not a joke) For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this "sludge" reacted with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

Well an email flier can't exactly be quoted as a credible source. What major medical institution conducted the study? And judging by the fact that if this study did ever take place, which it seems probable to study such a concept, the study was definately not peer reviewed and found to hold any water because then it would not be an email flier but it would be in a legitimate newspaper, which it was not. So before you hold to believe such wild stories, sit down and think for yourself about what you are reading. Especially if it is coming from an email flier.

Another thing I noticed. Cold water solidifying food in your stomach? Considering my stomach, I'm not sure about yours, is at a balmy 98.6 degrees F, I'm pretty sure that when water that I drink gets to my stomach it is no longer cold, or even room temperature, but much hotter. And considering my stomach, once again I'm not sure about yours, contains rather concentrated Hydrochloric Acid I highly doubt there is anything solid in my stomach after just a few minutes. This concentration of acid would give you a rather strong chemical burn if it contacted your skin, and trust me I've been burned by acids in my college chemistry courses before and its not fun.

Forgive me for continuing to shoot down your argument with commonsense but I just can't help it. You said that this oily stuff gets broken down then absorbed and turned into fats that cause cancer. Did you just discover a new cause for cancer recently? If so you could be pretty famous. I mean considering as you know that cancer is a form of cell mutation that eliminates the ability of a cell to accept a command to die that it just multiplies and once it metastasizes spreads to other organs impairing the function of those other organs. Ok I think I have spent enough of my time eliminating any shred of truth from your post what so ever.

I agree with you thundercat, the theory behind these statements are completely unfounded and lack scientific prove!

There's no scientific basis for the claim that cold water will "solidify the oily stuff" you have just consumed, or that this "sludge" will "line the intestine," let alone "turn into fats" and "lead to cancer." It's mumbo-jumbo, and self-contradictory mumbo-jumbo at that. The email states that drinking cold water "slows down the digestion," yet in the very next sentence declares that it will cause the your stomach contents to "break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster." Which is it? What studies do exist mainly extoll the benefits of drinking cold water, especially during and after vigorous exercise. Cold water is absorbed by the body more quickly than warm water and can help lower one's body temperature, preventing dehydration

What about all the cold drinks that people consume with their meals? Sodas, juices, and waters are all cold drinks and most people drink a cold drink with a meal. I enjoy coffee after dinner, but I tend to drink water with meals, as it has its own health benefits. If this study is true, then we are all at risk I think

It's not true facts. If you are worried then talk with your Doctor. Don't believe everything you read on the Internet. I have family with cancer and it's not caused by water. People should do their research.

This is just silly to me. They think everything causes cancer and they have a "scientific" reasoning behind everything as well. Then, tomorrow, they will change their mind and say that doesn't cause cancer but something else does. Then the new trend starts. I think they are just bored and trying to get people to react or something.

Libertarianz121 - That is crazy talk. Do your research a little better. You need to understand the true facts before saying something like that. I come from a family of people fighting cancer and have never heard such a thing.

This is not scientific. If you read the thread it said an email flier. Since when has an email flier all of a sudden been accepted as fact backed up by any sort of proof, logic, or even science?

Foxxee, sorry to hear about your family's struggles, but lighten up on Libertarian... After all-- sugar causes cancer, saccharin causes cancer, just about every component of our atmosphere causes cancer, viruses and bacteria cause cancer--point is we are bombarded by things that cause cancer all of the time, and Libertarian wasn't trying to be ridiculous, but it's a fact, that we're always hearing of something new that causes cancer. I've got some pre-cancerous conditions myself, and I can tell you, that even if you do live a very healthy lifestyle (which I don't) genetic disposition can still give you cancer at anytime if you're prone to it. Sorry about your struggles--just try not to take everyone personally.

when i reached college, i stopped drinking cold water since with common sense, after eating anything (usually which contains fat) and following it with a glass of cold water, it will for sure solidify some fats we have taken in making the the fats curd up inside the body. it won't help if faster metablism. i do this because i don't want my tummy getting bigger. and it really worked for me. i told my boyfriend about this and he just laughed at me. well, i won't force anyone to believe what i believe in. and... i never thought it will lead to cancer, too. good that i am not addicted to cold water. thanks!

Cold water does not cause cancer if consumed after dinner. For the purpose of dieting or losing weight it is actually advisable to drink water during your meal as it will indicate to your brain that you are full sooner if you only consume food. So your theory is slightly wrong, the opposite would actually be more effective to reduce the size of your stomach!

I responded without thinking. I thought drinking any type of water helped to flush and helped digestion. It sounds possible that this could cause some type of clogging.

Cancer-How it is caused - cancer
From where you have get this article please post a reference link here.. I can't believe, that cold water after meal leads to cancer..I have been a biology student for more than 3 years and never encountered such incidents or facts in the books or the net.. But nothing can be impossible in this world as the world and so the life style of the people are changing so fast..

I dont mean to be crude but I get e-mails all the time telling me I can make my pen1s 3" longer by taking a pill or that I won millions on an online lottery and just need to go to the site to claim my winnings, if that is the usual rubbish I get then I doubt many people are sending out groundbreaking information on how to help lower the chances of getting cancer...

There is a website called snopes.com and you can go there to look up things like this. These emails are usually false, and this one is too. They are meant to terrify you and the original sender gets a big laugh when (3weeks later) his neighbor sees him drinking a big glass of cold water after eating a huge meal at the neighborhood picnic and tells him that he can drink it or it will cause cancer. Some people have twisted senses of humor, that is on them though.
