I hope everything has worked out with your job. As it has been days ago.And by actually reading (!)I know there is no way you can give up the other job. I have faith that you will be able to fine the right job. If there are no jobs in your field look for some thing some how related. Employers really appreciate employees who will stay for the long haul. Sell that dedication and work ethics, You won't have to look long.

I am sure there are other companies near by that will also pay part of your ins. You should begin teusday looking for something else. Where I work when you said you had been with the previous company for 17 years , They would definately hire you if you had any experience at all. They don't care to train someone to the job so much if they think they might stay for awhile.

Thanks for your comment. But most of the places around here dont pay for you insurance unless you are full time.I just got lucky at this job that they pay for part time help.

Your boss may be trying to get rid of you. You've been there for 17 years, so I'm guessing you're up there on the payscale. It would probably be more cost effective (in their minds anyway)for them to lose you and hire someone at a much cheaper salary, maybe even minus all the benefits as well. Are they kicking in anything for your retirement? It all adds up. Not saying I agree with them, I think that's pretty low IMO. FedEx did that to a friend's husband several months ago, as well as a few other employees there. They went out, found little things to gig them on, then fired them over it-when usually they would've just been written up. Everyone they fired had 7+ years experience =higher salaries. Not saying that's what your boss is doing now, but it wouldn't surprise me. I'm sure he knows about your daycare job, and I saw on another of your questions, you watch your grandkids as well? He knows you're not going to give that up, and that's selfish of him to expect you to after 17 years of employment there. Most companies now a days are greatful if someone stays a year lol.
You'll have to check with your state laws on employment, try checking also with the Department of Labor, maybe also check with an employment attorney with a free consultation, but honestly, I don't think you'll have much if any recourse. A lot of states too are considered "at will" work states, basically meaning the employer can fire you just for the heck of it with no reason. Good luck with your decision!!

Do not quit under any circumstances! It sounds like there will not be a resolution to stay at that job but do not quit. If he is trying to force you out, make him make the mistakes so you have better information later. Changing your hours after 17 years is Ridiculous. He will have to fire you and then pay unemployment and you can continue to get insurance for a year after and that should help you til your next job.

Is this a job that you can start over with at another place of employment and receive the same pay and benefits? Do you like the job? Which job do you like more? What an arrogant jackass this boss must be to offer you something that would not compromise your other job. That is inconsiderate. I feel for you.
