I was wondering if we had any campers on the list? And if so, do you do the primitive camping (tent) or do you have a travel trailer or RV?
My family has done both. Currently we have a travel trailer and enjoy getting out of town for the weekends as much as time will allow.

Yes I love to camp. We started in a tent then bought a pop up tent camper and now we are back to a tent. I like it much better. I don't have to worry about getting a car big enough to pull a camper.

My kids love the tents. We have a three room tent that is 26ft long. There is just something about being in a tent and waking up and hearing the birds sing. Now we are getting our grandbabies out comaping. I had all my kids tent camping by the time they were 1 month old except for my youngest because she was born in Feb.

i have not gone camping in a long time but when i have i always used a tent and sleeping bags. never in an rv that takes the fun out of it and i just don't beleave that you are really camping unless you are in a tent.

I have to agree, REAL camping is done with tents. I've done it in a log cabin before which was neat too, but nothing beats a tent and sleeping bag.
The very best place I went tent camping was the California Sequoias.

When it comes to camping, I don't like it. Shoot, I love it, so much so that it is all I want to do. We have a pop up camper. You can check out our adventures at:

This might sound crazy, but you have to know me..I would camp all the time if I could. Tenting is a quick and easy getaway. We've had both tents and a pop up camper and I must admit, tenting is easier, but the camper looks better with us getting older now. :)
No matter which we used(and we have 5 kids) we also did primitive camping, which to us meant pit toilets and water spigots where you could get water and carry it to your campsite.

We started with a tent too, but it was on the beach and my hubby couldn't deal with the sand. LOL. My girls and I went camping on the beach in Florida years later. We actually had a hotel room booked but it was nothing like the website and I told them no thanks. We went to Walmart and bought a tent and hit up the campground. It was FUN!

We use our tent.. or the surburban and an air mattress. I wouldmn't mind a camper tho, now that wer're getting a little older, maybe there would be less packing and setting up.. and vice versa! But I'd still want the quiet lay back nature camping, not the little cities people seem to make..

@flowerchilde We are getting too old for tent camping. We went one time as a family on the beach and that did it for my hubby. He went and bought a small camper!

I love camping, I went to Scotland this year in September for 4 weeks to do just that, I packed my tent in the car and went off on my own. It's very cheap to camp, average £9/$15 a night. I love sleeping under the stars but I do miss my home comforts. Plus being in the UK you don't get the weather, some nights it was so windy I thought the tent would get blown away and the rain lashing down wasn't much fun either! The worst bit is at night when you haven't got any electricity only a torch. It is fun and I like adventure and I really enjoyed the trip.

You sound like a true adventurist, Wolfie! We almost had out tent blown away at the beach. A front came through overnight and the only thing holding it down was us and our belongings. The stakes were all up and the tent tried to take off when we walked out :)

I love to camp in a tent, or a sleeping bag under the stars. But my hubby doesn't. So we go in a RV. It's more convienent to say the least.

I love camping. The kids and I go at least once a year and pitch up a tent. We leave my hubby at home and this way I get to spend quality time with my children and he gets his quality time by himself lol. Mind you I do go to a campsite with electricity. We take the bar fridge with us so I don't have to worry about buying ice every day. Oh I also take my laptop. Once the kids are tucked up in bed I can keep in contact with my hubby and friends on msn :).

I enjoy camping. We have a four man tent that we use for short stays. We have an 8 man tent that we use for longer stays. And for touring we have a caravan. If we didn't have kids it would be great to just pitch a tent, but it's more practical for us to have the caravan when we go abroad with the kids.

I've had good experiences and bad experiences! One good experience when I was younger, in a tent, and outside Cedar Point. It was fun fun fun :) The next was a bad experience, actually camping in an RV, but in the middle of a mosquito filled area and I got bit up big time til my Uncle took me home :( No fun there! Finally, we camped in an RV outside Cedar Point about 5 years ago and that was a good experience.
So I guess it depends on whether or not their are mosquitos around! If I had a choice, I'd rather stay in a hotel ;)

We love to camp at the river. We have tents and motor homes. But we don't spend much time in either because the water is so inviting we just can't stay out of it or the boat to go fishing. I think every one should learn to camp. It is great time to spend with family.

Do I like to camp? In a word... no. I am not a fan of camping without a lot of the ammenities that I use during a regular day. I am all for hiking in the moutains, going for drives in the mountains, or sight-seeing, but I don't need to spend any nights in the outdoors.

Camping is a wonderful experience, and I like all of it, from sleeping under a tarp to RV'ing with friends. Primitive camping is wonderful, my husband and do a lot of backpacking, and floating the river. When I take my girlfriends we usually start out with car-camping at a State park or such. There is nothing like the sweet smell of fresh air, a sizzling frying pan over an open fire, the clarity in the still of a night and the beauty of nature. Happy Campfires to you and yours :)

I tent camp, but it is more correct to call my type of tent a pavillion. It is a white canvas medieval pavillion, 12x12, 6 foot high corner poles, and a 10 foot high center pole, purchased from Panther Primitives. It is floorless, so I start by laying down a 20 mil thick plastic dropcloth, followed by a heavy green tarpaulin which folds up a little on all sides to give me a waterproof floor. Next comes the Viking style rope bed, which takes a while to assemble, and fits perfectly on one side of the pavillion. the rest of the floor gets covered by a 6x8 area rug, and I hang Celtic tapestries from a perimeter rope that runs around each center pole. A lightweight foam mattress goes on the bed and is covered by comforters and Celtic throws. Spare clothing, food, and other gear go under the bed in waterproof tupperware bins, while a roll-up wooden slat table goes against the back wall. Setting up at an SCA event or Ren Faire is par for the course, but I really like to camp in regular public areas and watch everyone there stop and look in amazement.

Tent camping is the way to go! We love camping, I always loved it as a child. Now my husband and I go and take our 5 year old daughter..and this summer, my son will be 2 so he'll go with us too! I love being outdoors, and around water. I like going and playing in the streams and hiking (though haven't done that in a while).

Wow, you dug up an OLD one here! How fun! Yes, now that we are older the travel trailer is the way to go. Back problems with both of us don't do well with sleeping on the ground. I also prefer a bathroom with walls that isn't a hike away (like tent camping) unless you bring a portable potty...lol.
We have enjoyed it and used it more when we first got it. Right now, it currently needs a new roof. We wanted to fix the other house in Louisiana and sell it before fixing the roof on the camper.

We have a 39' tow behind travel trailer and we love it. Camping is so relaxing. Granted, it's a little work connecting and getting there and setting up and even breaking it all down. But it is worth it. We usually make sure to have a 3 night stay at minimum to make it worth our while.
