Have you ever used or heard of Bag Balm? Bag Balm is a salve that was created to soften cow udders. But, did you know that it also is a great treatment for diaper rash and to soften dry skin? I used this product on my babies bottoms. When my feet get dry skin, I will rub the salve on my feet and cover with socks. Bag Balm is available at drug stores, farm stores, pet stores, hardware stores, feed stores, and tack shops. If unavailable, order direct: Dairy Association Co, Inc. P. O. Box 145 Lyndonville, VT 05851 800-232-3610| 802-626-3433 (fax) info@bagbalm.com

I have a small tin of it here in my house. I have used it on cuts and scrapes to as it has some antiseptic quality to it. I also use it on my cats and dogs when they have skin irritations. One of my friends told me about it some time ago and I have always had some on hand ever since.

Haven't heard of it, but my relatives in Vermont swear by Fisherman's Friend, a cold lozenge (quite strong) that was originally used by fisherman and lobstering folk who have to work in terrible weather conditions. I'll have to ask them if they know about Bag Balm, I'm sure they do, since they know some people who are dairy farmers.

I'm from Mass. I had an older friend that used Fisherman's Friend for his emphysema. I have used them ...sparingly..once or twice. I break them in half cause good god almighty .. strong you say.. Oh boy are they strong. But they work very well if you can keep it in your mouth. I have yet to make it through the a whoe piece yet. I always end up spitting it out after about 2 min. You just can't explain it if you have had them you will know what I mean...lol

My parents use to use Bag Balm on the cows utters. They also used it on different rashes and dry skin, also on our pets dry skin problems. When I was in high school I had a boil on my nose and my dad put some Bag Balm on it and it went away in time for school pictures two days later. It is a very good product and everyone should have at least a container of Bag Balm around. I don't have one right now, but have it on my list, it lasts forever, too. Do you have a container of Bag Balm in you home?

I will have to let my kids know about using it on boils. I didn't think of that one. When I have it in the house I use it for many things. I gave my last 2 cans to my daughter and to my son for his baby.

My Goddaughter's mother uses it after every diaper change to prevent diaper rash. After reading this post, I think I'll get some and try using it with socks for dry feet. It seems that nothing works to prevent that unsightly dry, scaling skin on the feet- it would be nice to have a head start on the sandal season!

My mom used to have some. I have no clue what she used it for. I think we may have a can of it in the closet. I had never thought of using it on the baby. She is only 2 weeks old & this is something for me to keep in mind.

My mother has both Tiger Balm and Bag Balm at home. There is a big history of excessively dry skin on the female side of my mother's family. I have been oh-so-fortunate to have inherited this trait, and so it was introduced to me a few years ago. Mom has to send away for it (she can't find it in Canada, if you know where I can find it here, someone let me know, okay?) so it's scarcely used, but yep, it's great stuff!! (as a side note, I remember hearing about Bag Balm quite a few years ago when it was made famous by none other than Shania Twain, who uses it on her face to keep her complexion clear and beautiful!)

This is the second post stating that about Shania Twain. I would break out if I used bag balm on my face. Aside from using it on the sides of my nose for dryness I couldn't put it anywhere else.

I just posted on another board about this. I love this stuff!! It works for all kinds of rashes beside diaper rash. It works wonders on hard heels and elbows. I just love it and it is cheap too.

We started using Bag Balm when I was little and we had horses. Funny if we needed it one of us had to go out to the barn to get it. We used the same tin for animals and humans ...and kept it in the barn. Oh dear lord for some reason that sounds absolutely dreadful. I guess times change most of us keep our remedies in our house...lol Any way it's great stuff and works for all kinds of things.

Bag Balm has been the number one selling all- purpose human and animal skin conditioner in our Northern California area for years. As you mnetioned it was primarily used by dairyman to softenthe cow's udders prior to milking. Everyone should try some and it is economical
