Every day at 2:oo I go to my daughters school to pick her up. I get into the line of other parents waiting to pick up their children. The bell does not ring until 2:30. I cant wait till then to come or I will be at end of very long line, be on the highway end and my doughter would have to wait. So I get in line and wait. I did read and was happy to have the break in the day but soon it only made me sleepy and tired for remaining afternoon. I cant sit still. I tried to draw/sketch, that got old. I cleaned the inside of the car and called my mom........I gotta figure something out.I cant stand to waste time doing nothing plus time goes by faster if I keep busy. Anyone got any ideas for me before I go nuts killing time? And Thanks

How about cross word puzzles? Or take the checkbook and balance it. Pay bills. Read the news paper. Take coupons and cut them out. Do you knit or crochet? Maybe you could start. Try to do something different every day. That way it won't become boring as well. How about talking to the other parents who are in line?

here are some i could think of:
1) bring a newspaper and play crossword puzzle --- this never gets me bored
2) read a comic book --- archie, for instance
3) cross-stich --- i've seen so many parents in my newphew's school passing their time by cross-stiching
4) make friends with other parents
5) pray
6) observe other people and imagine what goes on in their heads --- that should be pretty interesting, huh?
hope these help. good luck!

Take a recorder or harmonica and learn to play it, start a scrapbook and work on it. Read your bible, pray. Write letters or cards, make to do lists, clean out your glove box, sort and read and answer mail.

How about writing letters, answering rsvp's, paying bills during this time?
Making your schedule out for the next day, you to do list?
Perhaps take catalogs and do shopping for those birthdays, holidays that are coming up or if you have a laptop and can get a connection to the internet you could do your shopping online or other web related work such as answering emails.
Do you have a portable DVD player and some favorite sitcom dvd's that are only 20 minutes or so long that you like to watch. My daugher loves repeats of Reba so she bought the seasons of Reba so she can watch it anytime.
Puzzle books such as wordsearch, crossword, those crazy number books that are all popular now.
Electronic games like solitare or slots if you are into gambling.
Do you scrapbook book or quilt or crochet or knit? Work on those things during that time.
I hope you can use some of these ideas?

Just some suggestions. You could:
Jog on the spot
Skip with a skipping rope
Juggle
Play cards (solitaire)
Invest in some handheld games
Get a laptop and play games/write a book
Paint your nails
Do Sudoku
Do Puzzle Books
Knit/Crochet/Embroider
Get a dog and bring it for a walk (your own dog, don't rob someone elses)
Snooze for half an hour
Take photographs
That's all I can think of for the moment. :)

Is it possible for you to leave much sooner? Because I would rather wait at the front of the line rather than wait near the end or the middle. I have to leave almost an hour before school lets out to pick up my children. LOL But I am always one of the first people there and I enjoy the time reading.
Maybe you do not have the right book. Maybe it would be better to have a magazine instead. I find there are times that I am reading and it just makes me want to fall asleep also. But then I just learned that the book was not moving fast enough or keping my interest. So here is a suggestion for a book that kept me turning the pages and maybe me thing "Already?" when the kids started to climb in the car.
Eternity by Maggie Shayne
It will grab your attention from the very beginning. And if you like that, it is a sequel of 4 books. :)
Let me know if you like it and if you want any other suggestions. :)

She just explained why she can't do that. She'll have to park really far away as other parents will be at the school before her. It happens everywhere.

i personally like reading, but if that makes you tired, would a book on tape be better? or you could take up knitting or even spend the time balancing your checkbook.
but why do all the parents have to pick up their kids in the same spot? couldn't you wait down the street or something so as not to be in the line?

if you can afford keep one servant who can daily pickup and drop your daughter, otherwise you go by 2:15 like so, your waiting time will be reduced, otherwise if you felt getting bored waiting in the queue, you bring some of your intersting books and read them daily while in the queue

well that sounds like a problem. since reading makes you sleepy. that was what i was going to suggest. if you have a cell phone you could play a game on it or talk to someone on it or text people. get an ipod so you can listen to music while you wait. or get a handheld game those are pretty occupying. hope that helps

Wow, do you live where i do? hehe The line at my daughters school starts at 2 pm, and if you get there before school lets out at 245 you will not be able to get through the line fast enough.
I thank god that i only live half a block, but even if its raining, they will not allow her to walk out and let me walk her home, they make her go to the car pick up and i have to wait in a line for 45 minutes and i live less than a minute a way, if that. I usually start a movie or something, or play a game on the psp, or gameboy. Or even if you dont have that, pick up a magazine or something.
It drives me crazy, but alot of things do these days, hehe. Good luck.

Find a really good book, one that you are interested enough in to want to keep reading even when it's time to go. If you find that book, you will find a way to pass thirty minutes.
