How many times does this happen to you here?

And the fact that us under 500 pointers can't copy and paste make this just more fustrating!!
I just finished writing a really long reply to a topic and it disappeared. Even if I copied it to paste it, stupid rule prevents me from doing so.
So I just wasted my time writing the response and it had some really good advice in it.
This happen to anyone else? I'm on high speed internet so that can't be the problem. Any ideas as to why this happens?
I would appreciate any thoughts on this.

Yep it happened to me a few times also. Its really frustrating so I am trying to reach 500 posts by the end of today. Its a shame that the honest MyLot users have to suffer, because of spammers and copy/paste abusers.

I hate it. And that's why it's so fustrating to lose the comments when you try to post them. It's not a big deal if it's a few sentences, but this post would have been almost half a page in length. That's why it fustrates me so much.
But I guess nothing's perfect :P

Yes! This happens to me a couple of times a day. It does make replying a bit harder. I usually just give up and move on. But maybe that is the point?

I've just solved the problem and now know why this happens.
If you try to type anything that is considered mature content and you're not set up to view mature content, it won't let you post your response.
It just happened again in a topic I was trying to respond to about avatars. Turns out the word(and this has to be hypenated in order for me to post it) por-no is a mature content word, and makes you see the white screen when trying to post.
So if anyone tries to post anything that may seem to be mature status, try spacing out the word in order to post your response.
Cheers all.

Me, too. It happens to me sparadically through the day. Also, the issue with the tags happens to me, too. It is so irritating to not have cut and paste feature, but I deal without it. When my post dissapears, though, I don't normally go back to post again, I just go on to whatever I would have done next anyways.

This is only a new rule recently introduced because so many people were joining and quite a large number were spamming. That is they were doing "cut and paste" whole discussions or else responses and the same ones were appearing elsewhere. Take heart, keep posting and you will soon see your rating increase so that you are able to type your response in something like word and then transfer across to myLot. Good luck.

I understand the reasoning, however, over 500 pointers are still spamming, it's not just a newbie job. So I don't understand why this should just affect the new people and not the others who spam.
Maybe, the rule should only apply to the spammers who get caught.

Yes the copy/paste option would have saved me some problems yesterday. I wouldn't have lost my post if that option still existed.

no i am also using high speed net and have been on mylot.com for aout 10 days but have never faced this problem which you are telling .sometimes there appears a message written in red on the top of the page thatthe message could not be sent but if u try again it really goes.so i hope the same is the problem with.i guess that u must once again try what i have told u and i hope that ur problem will be solved soon.

I had that message in red only once today, but that's not the problem. Instead of going to the tag page, I arrive at a blank screen. My message winds up in cyberspace I guess. I can't get it back after that.
This isn't the first time it's happened to me either. It's so fustrating.

I've never once had a pop up issue on this site. As far as I can remember, this site is free of pop ups.
Given that I'm not the only one who has had this problem, pop ups are not the issue.

I have had this personally happen to me here way more than once, and it can be quite frustrating to say the least. I have often wondered how come this glitch tends to happen here from time to time. I guess when they are doing upgrades on here of some sort they need to let us know in advance so we do not get frustrated when something we are trying to post on here or do does not post correctly, and we end up having to start over.

The problem could be the volume of members on this site.
I think myLot staff should weed out the members who haven't posted anything in months or even years, if the site has been active for that long. Not that it would make much of a difference, but it would decrease the population here.

I realize that this policy is to deter cheating, but what of the cheaters who use this method after they have reached their 500 posts? It is frustrating for members who put much thought into a discussion and try to post it only to have it go up in smoke. Maybe if you typed your discussion in parts and posted each part. I have also had articles that I have posted that contained a questionable word like di*k not get posted. I have had to reword the article or put in punctuation marks so it doesn't get kicked back.

That goes back to mature content. Since I've allowed mature content to be visible, I haven't had any problems posting anything. You can change that option in your profile. I'm glad I did since I've posted many responses that would have disappeared.

yes yes.. it happens to me a lot. i think it's some tech issue w/t mylot. and it's VERY frustrating for me since i'm below 500 points too. this really is bad.. so many times i've written big responses and they disappear then i don't feel like typing the whole thing again. i can't wait to reach 500

Sure seems like it takes forever to reach it though. I'm counting down the days it will take to reach it.
But I realized that it was the mature content issue that caused my problem. I'm allowing mature content to be visible so hopefully that helps. We'll see.

You shouldn't be doing copy and paste anyway. There should be plenty of time for you to type everything out, and your memory should be sufficient to retain the general flavor of what you have typed without too much trouble.
I suggest you make your responses more efficient. If you feel you have more to say, why not start a new discussion thread?
@kris182_2000 (5453)

My response that disappeared had everything to do with the discussion I was responding to. There is no point in starting a new discussion to give advice to a person who is already asking for it.
See the funny thing is that a person's memory isn't very sharp when they're up all night like I was. And no one has perfect memory nor does everyone have a photographic memory. For you to say that my memory should be sufficient enough to retain what I've typed is pure B.S.
My response that disappeared was 3 times longer than this comment, therefore there was no way to remember all 12 points of advice I was giving.
Besides, who made you the boss??

That option would be a lifesaver in the times that I do lose posts that I write.
I don't copy sources, I am fully aware of plagarism laws, unlike some of the spammers on this site.
If you are caught and convicted of plagarism, you face jail time, and that is something that I can't afford to do.
If for some reason I ever copy a post from somewhere and the content is not mine, I will state that fact, especially if it comes from the website I moderate on.
I'm not as stupid as some of the people who spam on this site.

It does happen to me. I don't know what you are referring here in copy and paste rule. But I always have a MS Word open and copy my message and paste it to MS Word before hitting the post response button so that if something happens I still have the message in my MS Word. Hope that helps.

Oh man this has happened to me soo many times....
I dint know that 500 pointers can copy and paste...Well I better reach 500 soon then !!
Y don't comments count as posts !!

I'm not sure why they don't count, but I've noticed that your first comment on a topic you post will give you credit, but that's it.
I don't think you get credit for posting more than once in a single topic.

It has happened to me several times. I call it the great white page! I finally went over 500 and have had less problems, but I did find another reason it happens. I have my preferences checked for NO mature content. I kept getting the great white page when I tried to use the word se*y in a posting talking about Clark Kent and Lex Luthor. That word is a red-flag word. I got the white page a couple of times, backed up and tried again and finally went to the preview response page. There it told me I needed to change my preferences to mature content or to reword my posting. So...there are a couple of reasons to get the great white page...even for us over 500!

Well my post had nothing to do with mature content, so I don't think that was the issue. I think I'll allow mature content just to see if I have any more problems.
However the white screen has only occured twice for me, maybe 3 times.

It's easy to "cut and paste" in myLotâ„¢ even if u r under 500 points.
Remember, Windows for dummies. Everything is possible with Windows, coz it was made for dummies.
U want the tip?

It would be helpful, but only if it won't cause any problems or issues here.
In any case, I doubt I'd use this unless I had another extremely long post. However, my posts are rarely as long as the one I lost, so that's the reasoning for probably not taking advantage of the tip.
So give it if you want, it's up to you.

Try it see if it works next time.

that's not happened to me yet but man if it did i would be mad. no idea why it happened. it must be the site that messed it up or someone trying to connect to your computer. if it's important to you then i would type it again. sorry about you having to waste your time and redo it if you wish to do so.

Sad thing is, my post had 12 pointers to it, and I can't remember them, so I couldn't redo it even if I wanted to. If I'd copied it, I could have re-wriitten it. But the thought didn't cross my mind that I would lose it.

I don't know why this happens, but it has happened to me too! It is very frustrating, because you write a long reply and hit post and then it's just gone. And I have also had the problem with the not being able to copy and paste because I don't have 500 points. It is very frustrating, but I guess we'll just have to put up with it. Do you retype it? I never do...I just get so fed up and say forget it and move on to another topic.
