I think girls are more emotional and they can't hold back their emotions easily so they cry easily. On the other hand guys thing its very girlish to cry and also their male ego doesn't allow them to shed tears in public so they don't cry.
But once we cry we let the sorrow flow out of us if not completely atleast partially so generally girls can lend out a better emotional support to guys.
Atleast that's what I think.
No offence meant guys.Don't get me wrong please :)

The perception that women cry more than men is pretty widespread. But as babies and children, boys and girls cry about the same amount on average. Only during puberty do girls begin to cry more than boys do. According to a 2005 New York Times article, by age 18, women cry four times as much as men.
A possible explanation for this is the hormone prolactin, which contributes to how much people cry. Prolactin is present in blood and tears, and it's more prevalent in women than in men. Women's tear ducts are also shaped a little differently from men's, which could be either a cause or an effect of increased crying. In addition, people who are depressed may cry four times as much as people who are not, and two-thirds of people diagnosed with depression are women

We are all born criers or have the capability to cry as soon as we exit the womb, but because it is installed in us as children that it is wrong for boys and men to cry, then we have to bottle up emotions and feelings because we cannot show our weakness in front of others. It is socially acceptable for women to cry, but not men, it's not macho and it's frowned upon. So men either cry alone or the emotions are turned into anger or worse. It is a shame but it will never change and crying will always be considered a weakness in men but never women.

Most of it has to do with society and how girls and boys see others around them behave.
Girls are usually more in touch with their feelings, and they arn't afraid to show any emotions, because unlike men, society expects them to show their emotions.
When I girl gets upset, she sees it, thinks about it, and usually gets more upset. When a guy gets upset, he avoids it and does everything possible not to think about it, holding it in.
This is a generalization, it all depends on the person.

females are socially deprived i guess and judged for anything out of the way... so the frustration probably makes them cry... moreover females are more emotional then men.

I think by nature most of us worry more, and carry the weight of the world on our shoulders more. I know my husband had things going wrong with his business, yet he could roll over and snore away, while I stayed awake worrying. Crying is a way to release all that built up emotion and stress.
