Knitting as a form of Meditation?

I was sneakily doing a bit of knitting at work at 7.30 this morning ( I was in before everyone else), and it reminded me of just how soothing I find the repetition, the counting of stitches, watching it all grow oh so steadily slowly and the feel of the yarn slipping through my fingers. To me its as much a form of meditation as it is about the end result. Am I daft, or do you find that too?

I do find that - it is definitely as much about the action as the result. I find it very soothing to knit - especially when I am knitting with a fabulous feeling and coloured yarn. Blues and purples are the best I find for me. I do love the red and yellow hues as well though...ah the joy of knitting!

I find knitting to be quite soothing too. Once i start i get so involved in what im doing i hear and see nothing i become so relaxed. What makes me feel even better is that i did it myself and finally completed something in my life. So keep up the good work.

I also find that knitting is a great form of relaxation. I just love to see my work in progress and when I have completed a project, it gives me a great feeling of seeing the end result.

Yes, I do. It's soothing to watch the stitches flow and the piece grow. If the pattern is easy, it can be a good accompaniment to music or day dreaming, too.

Knitting is good therapy. It has a calming effect. The only time it wears on my nerves is when I drop a stitch or two.

Thats very true, or if its really too small and fiddly, I enjoy fine work, but I like knitting to visibly grow as well, and sometimes its good to use big needles !

i used to knit before work when i would misjudge time and arrive to work a little early so i would knit just to pass the time it is rather relaxing and soothing it helps me to take my mind off the world but for some reason knitting always makes me very sleepy i think knitting could be used as a form of meditation but since it makes me so tired and since my bones start to ache if i am sitting down for long periods of time i do not really consider knitting to be a form of meditation for me
