The team was pretty disappointing this year but it's hard to put a finger on exactly why. It could have easily been an 11 win season if it weren't for some key turnovers and Ben coming back from injuries too soon and having some really off games. To be honest, once the team got to around 2-6 and the playoffs were pretty much out of the question, I was torn between rooting for them and hoping they lose just so they get a better draft position. There's no benefit from just barely missing the playoffs, other than pride. As is, they should still be able to draft the best CB in the draft (probably Leon Hall out of Michigan, but I'd love to see Darrelle Revis since he's from Pitt). Don't worry, they'll be back next season. There's no real glaring weaknesses on the team but the other teams in the AFC keep getting better. Sad to see Cowher go but I'm hoping Russ Grimm or Ken Whisenhunt bring some more life to the offense with the defense doing what it always does.

I agree-- but I'm thinking that you cannot be a superbowl team every year- Especially when you lose Key players- Randle El & the bus... I didn't think losing Burress the year before hurt as much as losing Randle El. With Bettis - the team had the hunger-- they wanted to win it for him and themselves but knowing it was his last year. They seemed to really lose that spark this year- and Ben looked just like he should have looked his first year- Not his third..
I agree he came back to early- If not from the motorcycle accident then certainly from the appendectomy. He should have taken more time off- Batch was doing just fine. He pulled it off against the Dolphins!
I thought our defense looked alot worse this year also! Its like they had some great plays then they would let a big one get away- I'm hoping that our d is back next year-
The Ravens got alot better- The Bengals just plain stink! and so do the Browns- But we had a heck of a time beating the Browns!
I have really mixed feelings on Coach Cowher leaving- He is Pittsburgh! It will certainly be weird next year without seeing him and his angry jaw on the sidelines. I'm just hoping that we get a great coach! Grimm or Whisenhunt would be good- But both are interviewing for other teams right now- So only time will tell.
Lets hope we have a great 2007!
Thanks for the comment! I knew there had to be some Steeler fans out there!

I feel that injuries was more of a problem than anything else. Coming off of a Superbowl victory, there were not many key losses or changes in the offseason. But, as you said, Ben was hurt many times, the line looked shaky sometimes, players were our for a few weeks and whatnot. I do like the idea of drafting a CB this year, especially Revis. No only is he a strong, physical corner that we don't seem to have, but he also can return punts and kicks (reference the WVU game). I would like to see them take either a CB or maybe a LB, P. Willis or Posluszny from PSU.

I can honestly say it will sure be different not seeing Coach Cowher on the sidelines- I do hope that we get a great coach too- There are alot of them out there- I'm just glad Cowher didn't pull a Saban and go college for alot more $$.
I'm sure he will be back in 2008 (Cowher) just not with us!

My hubby loves the steelers and was very disapointed with how they did this year. He likes Cowler and wants him to stay. Better luck next year

Yep I read in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette that a move to Miami would not be improbable. I do not see it happeneing this year. I'm thinking he will take a year off like he says he is and relax with the family- Possibly come back in 2008 but not for us-
He was a great coach for us.
I like Miami as well- Sig other is a big fan of them- But I still do not want Coach Cowher there.
Miami would be smart to pick up Whisenhunt or Grimm- They already have Mularky!

HERE WE GO STEELERS HERE WE GO!!
LOL
I am one of the ultimate steelers fans from day 1! My daddy raised me right!
As for what happened... I'd say it was a combination of things...like it or not the BUS played a huge role in our winning season. He was gone. We had so many injuries. Of course our QB just simply hasn't been himself. I'm sorry but there is no way physically you can do what he's done physically (back in a contact sport within a few weeks of how many major operations? No way!).
As for Cowher, well I hope he stays. I think he has a lot left in him. He's young still. And by the way, if that man wasn't married and Big Ben wasn't already going to be my husband (he just doesn't know it yet! LOL) I'd take him in a second. I think Cowher is so dang sexy! Don't ask me why... I just do! LOL
They don't want to be greedy. Face it, 5 rings is nothing to sneeze at!
