okay so i'm only 14, yet my parents are pressuring me to get a job. i already have about a thousand dollars cash from babysitting my little bros over the summer. but i notice all my friends are getting real jobs, working from 4-8 after school and 10-7 on weekends at restaurants, movie theaters, libraries, stores, ect. so should i start looking for a job? maybe people should start getting jobs at an earlier age, considering how advanced the world has gotten. i am able bodied enough to take on a job but this just adds to the pressure of dating, working out, pets (horses, big job on its own), sports, school, and family. plus, there arent many jobs a 14 year old can do aroudn here. yes i know i named a few above, but i know that you have to know someone in that area to get the job at this age. noone has "paperboys" around here. what do you think?

We went through the same thing with my son who is also 14...and I actually put a post here on MyLot about our dilemma. I got a lot of responses and comments. My son now works part-time at a video store to make a little extra money...so I think that is good enough for now. It is usually a couple of hours on weekends..and now during the break. He has saved some money like you...however not as much..so congratulations on that. I think at your age..school should come first..if you can find something small than that is fine. I have not pressured my son..it is him who wanted to work...so I let him. Concentrate on being young..because you are only young once..and you have the rest of your life to work...Perhaps you could think about opening a bank account with what you have saved..that is what I told my son....

I think that if you think you need the money and if there's not much homework to do for school you should do it, if you don't need more money for now and already have a lot to do then you should wait, it's not like we don't start to work soon enough, actually I think you should enjoy being a teenager :D Have a happy new year

In our country working at this age is prohibited by law but still children are working, I feel this is the right age to make your career instead of working.

I agree with you, that maybe people should start working from an earlier age, but if you don't want to get a job right now, you shouldn't! I'm 14, too, and I have never thought about getting a real job from this age! But I thought about making money... But not by working... with mylot! Online working... It's more comfortable then getting a real job, and if this is really honest, and I'll really receive my money, then why should I even get a job when I'll grow up? And, by the way, I see you are registered on mylot, why do you need to get a job then?

I think you are very smart, you seem to know a lot about a lot of things. I think that getting a job would lessen the stresses and pressures of dating, and what not, because you then have other things to worry about and no longer have your mind on such things, at such an age you shouldn't be worrying about boyfriends and stuff. It'll also give you a stable reputation tht will better help you in the future when you are looking for a job, or just college, or university programs. It'll help you in school because you wil learn more about the world you live in and the people in it, and you might begin to understand better soaial studies or certain sciences. Though you need to know people sometimes working in some of these places at such an age you can also get into the work place by your expertees and intellegence, and with that head on your shoulders all you need to do is ask for an interview, ask for 5 minutes of their time and let them know what's on your mind. Tell them they can ask anything that they want pertaining to working, and how your mind works and answer it respectfully. With that you can get a job... I can see by your post that you do want a job, yes it's more responsibility, but it prepares you for your future, because it only gets harder from here. I hope that everything works out for you hun Peace and love Blessed be

If there is an opportunity, then grabbed it.Why not? At least you're helping out your parents.it's a good thing that you learn responsibility an early age.

It depends if your parents need you to work while you are studying to save the family; you can do to help your family. It is not hard work if you can help.

You have plenty of time to work. Enjoy your life before you have to actually go out and get a real job. Take the time to still be a kid. Maybe you could pick up the occasional babysitting job in the neighborhood. In the meantime, tell your parents you are making money on the web.

I had a job at 14. I worked at a grocery store. It was very tiring. I'd be at school then go to work until 8pm. Maybe you should do it during the summer only? A lot of kids only worked the summer. Your grades will suffer, and so will your pets.

I think 14 is a bit young to get a job, other than babysitting. I think that teens should be able to enjoy just being teenagers for awhile. I think I was about 16 when I got my first job. It was at a local grocery store. I mainly wanted a job so I could pay for my car insurance. I don't think that your parents should rush you into getting a job just yet..

remember that your study must come first! but tell me, do you have spare time? can you do both study and work? if you say you can,.. so it is. i think working as a paperboy would be ok.good luck. i actually adored young boy study about live and looking for money in young age.

It is better to finish your studies at this age.if you get involved in the job right now you may have no interest in studies.

that depends on you. do you really want to get a real job. a thousand dollars is pretty good money for a 14 year old. you dont have bills or anything right now and i'd keep saving it up. if your making pretty good money babysitting then why get a real job. no taxes to pay on the money or anything. you are right there are very few jobs 14 year olds can do. paper boys wouldnt be bad if you have a bike and dont care to wake up at 2 or 3 am. but i'd keep babysitting if i were you cause you can also do your homework while babysitting. your 14 live your life dont rush into work. cause you'll be working for the rest of your life. enjoy school and your friends and have fun.

Well, if you need to cash, then yeah I would get a job. But if already have 1000$ cash you might not need to. Just depends on what you want to buy. Like if you don't really need to buy anything, I would just try to get a couple off bucks here and there, but if your getting something big, like a car then I would get a job. Or if you just like having money, then get a job.
