Responding to discussions with junk

I know this is a well documented and discussed subject so it may even get removed. But I was commenting in one dicussion just then about drugs and one user had a , as thier response. Another user had said Happy New year. What does that have to do with the subject? Is this how these people get such high numbers after their names? I hope I don't get kicked off myLot cause I told the person who said Happy New Year what does this have to do with drugs and that I have seen them post stuff like this before.

When I see posts like that in a discussion I usually report them with an ! mark or give them a - rating. It is the best way to handle the situation. Sometimes I will remark and ask them "what" or tell them they aren't staying on the topic of the discussion. It is sad that this happens. Hopefully myLot will do something about it in the New Year.

I agree. There has to be away to make changes. I wanted to paste a website address to a comment I made and couldn't because my rating is less than 500 but some guy can keep cutting and pasting happy new years because his is.

Totally agree with you. I had posted this topic, where a few people answered things like "no" or "you are wrong" or even "happy new year" which had nothing to do with the matter. There were even 2 users that copied, word per word, 2 other users' posts. I reported those two and told them to not post in my topics anymore.

I too am sick and tired of seeing junk as a response to things here on mylot. I think I have a pretty good rating and I can tell you, I didn't get it from posting nonsense replies or from copying and pasting, I worked for it and I think everyone else should too. I doubt mylot will do anything to you, and I hope they don't remove this topic as I think it is something that people need to see. I gave you a + for it.

You should also hit the ! to report abuse. I have been chasing mr Happy New Year all day, in several discussions. That is how we will get rid of him. He has posted over 400 posts like that since I ran across him yesterday.

You make a good point. But please forgive me, somtimes the old brain goes off-kilter and I might get to rambling about some gibberish that doesn't relate to the current topic. But using 1 to 5 word posts to get higher numbers really serves no purpose and adds little to discussions. I am fairly new, and I don't know the rules so much.

I have seen many "happy new year" responses and I think it's just annoying when you find a well thought out discussion. Recently I had a person reply to one of my discussions with just a ".". I think some are just trying to get as many posts as possible in hopes of raising their earnings, but from what I have heard is that Mylot earnings are based upon the quality of your response to a discussion not by how many posts you have made. I could be totally wrong though.

clearing up the top portion of my statement "I have seen many "happy new year" responses and I think it's just annoying. Especailly when you find a well thought out discussion and all that some of posted has nothing to do with the post." Sorry about that brain is tired.

This topic has been discussed a few times. By now a lot of us recognize those who post "Happy New year" or "I agree" to every discussion on every subject. As people before me have said the best method to get these people off Mylot is to report them by using! and or give them a negative rating. Maybe they don't know that they are wasting their time with these useless posts. As I understand it they will not get paid anyway. I hope this is actually the case.

Honey, you need to turn those people in. They are trying to get points, and are cheating. We all need to as a team help MyLot. They want us too. Hit the ! next to that persons response. They tell why you are turning them in. They are breaking the rules. Good luck.

It is a numbers game to these people. They couldn't care any less if they posted a quality response or answered helpfully to someone's discussion. They are here for one reason only: To try and make money by cheating the discussion boards. It is a lot easier for people to paste "Happy New Year" on every discussion instead of taking the time out to actually read and then give an honest reply. Fortunately, Mylot is doing what they can to get rid of these posts, and these people are not making anything for posting these ridiculous things. If they would take the time out to read their alerts they would know this. But if they aren't even reading discussions, why would they even bother to read their alerts? Anyway, the best thing we can do is just keep on reporting. Mylot stated that they can't catch everything, and they do depend on the users to help them out by reporting foul play.

In fact, what you did is exactly what is going to help clean up myLot. MyLot is definately getting cluttered with nonsense discussions and posts and it really is hard for me quality discussions that I would like to participate in because I have to scroll through 50 non relevant topics before finding something of interest...even when viewing topics from my interest. I have now gotten into the habit of giving out a "-" to posts that are irrelevant to the subject of the discussion.

Yes I do agree with you. I usually just ignore them or sometimes Ill write back telling them what an idiot they are. Do you know if respond to junk will be penalized for it? Just a thought. Thanks

i think you did the right thing and Mylot will not take it against you. some people are just opening forums and dropping a one-word answer, or worst posting somthing that's irrelevant to the topic. it's so annoying!

I had someone reply to one of my discussions with just a period. I told her that she won't make any money that way and to stay out my my discussions.

better is that rather than posting a comment you should press negative marks for such non-sense posting...i do it usually. i see many posts which are just made to increase the no. before their names..we just give negative marking..and do not waste our time to teach the lesson of loyalty..

I hate that! If you haven't got anything constructive to add to the conversation, keep your fingers off the keyboard. "I didn't read the book" or "I haven't seen that movie", is not helpful. I was discussing a movie, I don't remember which one, and got a long diatribe and synopsis of the Godfather. I reported it, and negatived him.

i agree and i hate such responses i say better dont give such responses i think it would be much better and wiser way to give them a negative rating as they are doing it for money and with many negative ratings they wont earn much even though they have responded to many
