Should men be told to sit down when using the toilet?

Do not stand! - Should signs like this tell men to sit down before they urinate?

A few years ago, a survey by a German university demonstrated that men who urinate standing spray outside of the bowl an average of... 6 litres a year! You may think that some studies are quite weird and you may wonder who sponsors such 'research', and you'd be right. But think about it. Most of the time, it's a woman who cleans the toilets that the gentlemen so unvoluntarily desecrate. So, people, my question is quite obvious: should men be told to sit down before relieving themselves? Think of those who clean the mess!

Its a lie i can't believe 6 liters i think that is just too much, i think that person would be urinating outside the pot more deliberately. Anyhow, i think it is a matter of choice, whether a person wants to stand and do it carefully, or sit on a seat where 1000's of unclean people would have sat! and done their business. Well, i clean my own bowl if i mess it up. However, it is a matter of choice, its unfair, nature has gifted us this special ability to stand and urinate. But, we foolishly listen to women and try to sit and do it like them!...lol. If women had their way they would soon encourage men to wear skirts, grrrrrrr. its time for mens liberation moment.

Six litres is only an average. Some produce less, others more. Anyway, I think that sitting down is indeed better in the comfort of your own home, and not in public toilets. Brrr! Men's Lib, eh? Why not? I'm with you! ;)

Men should be able to pee anyway they want.. Yeah they make a mess, but with everything you do, you make a mess. Should they tell little kids not to play in the playground, because they get dirty? Should they tell ladies not to have babies because it will hurt? No, they shouldnt. Its the individual persons choice.

This man was ordered to "sit down" years ago by his wife. What did I do? I wondered what she was talking about. Like any good ol'country boy in Arkansas when I gotta go, I go outdoors. I live in such a remote area that I can outside neekid and no one would see me. I go outdoors much more than indoors. The wife better not order me to "sit" outdoors. Those ticks and chiggers might get me someplace where they could really be annoying. If she insists on this sitting thing when I'm indoors I'll just turn our one holer into a two holer. That's as in "outhouse" for you city slickers and yankees.

Actually, I'm only an honorary "good ol'boy". You have to be born here to qualify offically. However, I do live in a remote area where you can do as you want and no one will care because they won't know. As to the outhouse. I've wanted one for years, but the wife won't let me put one up. So, that part of my response was a "white lie". It's the only one I've ever said here at myLot. Honest. Trust me. :-)

I had no idea a man can pee while sitting!!! I grew up in a house with 4 men, been married twice and been with my 2nd husband for 11 years, yet I just now learned this?! I am so blown away. I think if they can they should. My question is, if they can why have they not been doing so? Why do they choose to stand? Personally, I like the idea of sitting, it's like multitasking, you rest and relieve at once. It’s quite nice you know. How strange…

My husband cleans the bathroom in our house...and he is also the one who decided he would site to pee. He got tired of cleanign up pee all the time! So - sure, if you are the one who cleans, you can decide ... but if someone else cleans up after you, I think it is perfectly reasonable for that person to ask you to sit.

From a womans point of view - I would think standing is the better way to go because if the seat is a little dirty (strange bacterial growth etc) around the rim, the most dearly worshiped part of the male anatomy could be tainted in some way if coming into contact, making told appreciation less worthy of thoroughly deep worship while on bended knee. Solution - lift lid. If lid (usually in public realm) looks exceptionally filthy, lift with t.p. and do the jig to shake dry or use opposite hand to avoid touching highly worshiped part with lid-touching-hand. Always remember to wash hands. As for the home situation - take turns cleaning the bowl to balance things out a bit. cleanliness is next to godliness. ;)

I like your expression "the most dearly worshiped part of the male anatomy." I'd never heard it before, but it somehow sounds really nice. You got the best response ;)

Well this make total sense unless the man in question would be considerate enough to clean up after himself. HAHAHA but I know that is not likely to happen either. I do know a few men who sit as a matter of preference but they may just be thinking ahead and being considerate. Or they could just be lazy and not want to stand up hehe

Yes as they empty their bladder fully. I beleive that one reason a man suffers from more (kidney) stones than a female is for this reason i mentioned above.

I don't think kidney stones are linked to urinating in a standing position. It's actually more of a metabolic problem. Thanks for responding anyway :)

No they're related to calcium deposits, but to expel these men should pee sitting down leaning slightly forward as told to us by my partners doctor

It doesn't matter if the man sits or stands so long as the whole place is disinfected and all the germs are killed so that no one will get any diseases from being in the toilet. Cleanlines is next to godliness so to speak.

I don't think men would agree to sit down in a toilet when they urinate. Isn't it that men are more comfortable when they are standing? How can they possibly sit down when they really have to stand? I guess what is the best response to the question is, men should clean up their mess after urinating. That's what I always remind my Dad and my brother because mostly, after using the toilet, I can see bunch of sprays on the bowls and it's disgusting because I for one has to seat down because women don't urinate like men! :) Well, it's just a matter of reminding these guys to be proper when they urinate and never spray and spray their urine too hard. :)

Yes. And more so if they cannot aim properly. These people make the toilet very, very dirty. In singapore, the Ministry of Enviroment takes a serious view on dirty toilets. The onnus of keeping clean a public toilet is on the owner. He/organistion can be fined for maintaining a dirty toilet.

yes i agree that men shoul just sit down when leaking if they use toilet bowls. that wouldn't make them less of man since nobody will see them when they do that.

Your point is certainly valid. Just recently I heard there were some womens lib groups in Europe that were protesting the idea of men standing. They were viewing this as a symbol of macho and chauvenistic. Basically if women cannot do it, then men should not be allowed either.

if you talk about personal hygeine of a person be it male or female, it's usually very unconvinient sitting on a public toilet. Males have an option to aim and release whereas females don't otherwise they too won't preferably sit in public toilets. LITTER, is it male or female. Anyone who has taken up the job of cleaning has to just finish his/her job. how does it matter if the spill was by a man or women. Only when you do the job standing you need to concentrate and be more accurate

I think that this should be taken into consideration by males. Not only for the obvious reason that the female is the one that cleans it but also that we have to sit down afterwards! I think that men should be much more considerate in this matter for sure!

I'm sure it's not just to avoid making a mess. It's a good idea because guys will not accidentally wet their pants as well. But then they will have to spend a longer time than they are used to.
