Can someone please tell me why is it when you buy pizzas or have home delivered pizzas they always come in square boxes, but the pizza is round?
Surely a round box would hold the round pizza better than a round pizza in a square box .. and it would be less packaging too so it could probably be made cheaper too ...

I actually saw this on unwrapped, the history of pizza and why the boxes are square. It all started in 1940 right after WWII. Pizza was being ordered to go and they needed a way to carry it home. They placed it on a square cardboard and slid it into a paperbag, then they changed the base to a circle so it could go in the bag easier.
Next they tried the bakery boxes which was better to stack, carry, protected the topping and to hold heat. But these were very flimsy, so in 1960 they changed to a sturdier square box, corrugated box that could hold up to more abuse, stack better and retain heat.
From this concept Dominoes went to an octogon shape to help with heat resistance. And of course it is cheaper to make an octogon shape box than a round or square box.

Blimey .. thanks for that interesting potted history ... I had no idea pizzas became popular so long ago ... and now I am going to be looking out for those octagonal boxes as I've never seen one ... probably because my nearest pizza takeaway is about 16 miles away hehehe

Square boxes are easier to produce, and take less cutting when being made. It also makes the boxes easier to handle when being transported. There are a lot of places around here that have started or continue to make square pizzas, and I actually prefer them a lot of the time.

you can't fold the box in the round shape. if it fold up in the round shape, it may spend more time and pay for more labor.

This is a cute question, patootie :) I would imagine that square boxes are more logical because they would be easier to stack and store, taking up less inventory space than round boxes which would always have wasted space around them. I have no idea of the correct answer but this is the first one that came to mind LOL
