Typing complete words....

I get so tired of people not typing complete words... plz, u, ur....... YOu have a whole keyboard in front of you. You are not texting. Slow down and type complete words so that you are easily understood. I am sure that if you are easily understood your discussions will probably get more responses. There's no way you can lose!

I'm originally French and even so I speak quite well english, it is very difficult for me to read those weird morse code. I know texto are quick but some people use it so much that it becomes nearly impossible to read. I think typing whole words make it easier and more pleasant for the reader.

I totally agree with you, I struggle to decypher some of the messages on here because of the way they are written. Combine that with the poor standard of English that some have too, and, I'm not wanting to discriminate in any way when I say that because I know it isn't everyone's first language, it makes for difficult reading and even more difficult understanding. I've just spent a lot of money on a new wireless keyboard and intend to get my moneysworth out of it hehehe

I hate it too. It really irks me. I think that there is a general decline in the use of the English language though. I've noticed an increase in this "text" speak, and especially on the likes of Bebo or Myspace. I've even started getting the occasional e-mail with text speak in it.

It is a small pet peeve of mine when people use the abbreviations that you were talking about, as well. I don't understand how it is so hard to type a few more letters per word and make your text look more readable. It just doesn't look all that intelligent to post things like 'u' for u. I mean, how many more milliseconds does it take to type two more letters to create the word 'you', lol? I don't mean to sound elitist, I just find it annoying when people use those sorts of abbreviations in their writings. Then again, I am a fairly fast typist, so maybe it really does save a lot of time for those who have to use the hunt and peck method to type their posts out. ^_^

What about using lol, rofl and all that other chat room stuff? Is that acceptable? I know that I use them all the time, and this post reminded me of it.

LOL and ROFL are computer chat room words that are very common. The others...you are right...they are for text messages on your phone and have no place here. A funny pet peeve, but all of our pet peeves are pretty funny! I tried to start a discussion on pet peeves, but it wasn't noticed. I had a lot of them! Oh! Hmm. To me, lol and rofl and all of those types of abbreviations are okay. I love using LOL. It's a little different when you are abbreviating several words at once instead of just shortening a three letter word down to two letters or one! *laugh* You make a very good point, though. I hadn't thought about those.

Oh yes. The alternating capital letters are something that I just refuse to read. I am sure there are a few people on My Lot that would have made more money if they hadn't been quite so creative in their lettering!

How come if it's done through short words you don't break 'commmunication' down to a short word? The other words are already small, yet the biggest word in your post is 13 letters long..! LOL

there is no problem in reading words like plz, u, ur..... Because time is money, we have to type in a fast mode. so we do so. IT became experience. hard to change now.

Ya I agree with you but many of the users on here like me are use to texting because we do it all day everyday so its hard to break the habit when your actually on a site where you can use complete words. I have been texting messaging so long I have fogotten how to spell many words correctly.

I agree it is much better for people to write complete words. I don't know what some of these of abbvriations mean so it's a struggle to read some posts. I account for the fact english is not some members first language. That I can disregard. But for those of us that english is our native tongue please don't butcher it.

Hey sometimes its ok to type in abbreviated words..atleast those words which people can easily understand. if you have a long response to a post you dont have time to sit and type everyting out. I think its perfectly ok in such cases to type out abbrev.

I really think that if you have something so long that you omight need to take a nap, get a drink, and psych up for your typing. That way you can withstand the terrible toll that all that typing so others can understand, places on your fragile state of well being.

Regardless of the generation, we are still dealing with an international community. You lose money if you cannot communicate clearly.

There is a certain grace associated with taking time to communicate clearly. It shows concern for the audience.

i understand your concern. sometimes, i don't understand much what people are saying already. too much shortcuts on words. it really shows that they are in so much hurry to earn points here. which isn't right. we're here to discuss aobut issues and stuffs and not to text messages in a minimum amount of letters!

I totally agree with you. I don't know why people should type like that. I myself is guilty if I saw that I made typographycal errors. I am also guilty if I was not able to reread my responses in order to correct my typographycal errors. I use to send sms in complete sentences and also in complete words. I hate receiving messages with word contractions because I don't do that. This is also the reason why people can't speak, spell amd write English words well.

Sage Mother, thanks for posting this discussion. I totally agree with you, as does everyone who has replied. The only thing wrong with it, is that the people who need to read it, won't. Personally, if there is a lot of texting, I don't bother and I give it a "-". Because this in an International site and many members have limited English, we should make things as comfortable as possible for them, and help them to gain confidence with the language. (Us oldies should also be considered) Another thing that annoys me is people who post a discussion, receive numerous replies, and never go back to their own posting. One had 69 responses and has not replied to any of them.

That is right. i have also same feeling at times when people use abrevations for the full words.I myself also must be using this small words sometime due to habit but i try to improve on it gradually.posts like this will hasten my rate of improvement.

It's better if people type with full words, but some people are just lazy to type the whole complete word. I always type complete words, that way everyone will understand, and wont take two seconds longer.
