I have been crocheting since I was about 5 - that's a LONG time!!! I can knit, but not that well. Mostly I make afghans - twin, queen and baby sizes. It keeps me from eating while watching tv and they make great gifts! I have probably 20 afghans in my closet and my mom will come over and go through them if she needs a gift for someone. I also crochet christmas stockings and tree skirts. My favorite crochet magazine was Crochet Fantasy, but now it's almost all clothes. Since I crochet tight, my clothes never turn out too well.

Oh, honey, talent has nothing to do with it - I can follow a pattern! It's easy, they tell you exactly what to do. The hardest part is counting the rows/stitches sometimes.
Leisure Arts has great patterns too and you can find them just about anywhere. They have all levels, beginner to expert. And the expert aren't really all that difficult. Look through one and see what you think. I think crocheting is very relaxing.

Over the many years I've been knitting, I've made almost everything from baby booties to afghans and from adult coats/jackets to house shoes. Socks, hats, mittens, sweaters, shawls, blankets...
Once you make your first item, you'll probably be eager to do more.

I know how to do basic crocheting but I always lose count. I made my boyfriend a scarf which he wears with pride... but it's skinny then wide then skinny again then wide again. All because I kept forgetting my count.

My friend and I were pregnant at the same time, her daughter was born the last week of May and my daughter was born the first week of June. I made both of our daughters blankets that I crocheted. Now for some reason I can't do it anymore, the only time I've been able to crochet is while I'm pregnant.

Mostly I'm making hats at the moment, I get bored doing large things liek wooly jumpers and cardigans. If you can do basic crochet, why not star with a nice scarf to get yoru hand back in again, then you'll have a finished garment to be proud of and it may even inspire you to try something more complicated in due course.

I know both. I hate knitting. If I drop a stitch, I am up the creek. I only do basic crochet though. I don't do it anymore. It is too hot where I live, and I have nobode to make anything for.

I've probably made a hundred things so I'll stick to recent things. I think the most recent thing I finished that was knitted was a self-striping child's hat.
For crochet I recently made a hat for a friend who had hers blow away in a windstorm. It was made with one strand of light green worsted weight yarn and one strand green fun fur. I haven't been able to give it to her yet because right when I got it ready to mail her, she moved.

I Knit and Crochet.. i've only been knitting for a few months but i have made scarves and i made a baby sweater for my daughter. I have been crocheting for about 3 years now and i have made blankets, baby clothes, slippers, scarves, hats, belts, but i haven't made any sweaters for myself... honestly i preger crocheting, but i like the way that knit looks better... but knitting a sweater intimidates me :)

I knit and crochet, but usually like knitting better. I've made hats, scarves, sweaters, mittens, socks and stuffed animals. I think I like making the stuffed animals the best.
LionBrand.com has a lot of free patterns you can download for both knitting and crocheting.
Sandie61 you said you do basic crocheting. Does that mean that you know the single crochet (sc) stitch? Because you can make a lot of things in just that stitch alone. Disclothes, scarves, even afghans. A lot of the crocheted stuffed animals are all just sc usually worked in rounds. Some small amount of sewing involved, sewing the legs and tail to the body of the animal.
I hope you do start making something, because once you start you'll get hooked. It's fun and very satisfying to start something from a ball of yarn and see a completed project come out of it.
