i cant shutdown my computer other than directly taking off the power cord

before you make any changes of your computer try to go first the system restore. may be it could work the problems, if you are on OS XP try to look at it in control panel.

i will suggest you to format your computer once and load operating system again. That will make your computer clean and tidy again.

Shut it down with the powercord then restart and if it still doesn't work i would advice a good virus scan. If more things are getting broken you might need to reinstall your computer it happened to me i couldnt go to any options or something to fix my computer because the virus destroyed it So please scan your computer real quick and rate this + :)
