If not, what is traditional for you to eat on New Years Day and what does it mean? We have always eaten blackeyed peas for luck for the coming year. When in New Orleans the tradition was Red Beans and rice. What is your tradition? What did you eat on New Years Day?

We had the traditional blackeye peas, cabbage and Ham for New Years!
I'm in Louisiana (about 60 miles from NO) but I never heard of having red beans for new years. This isn't the norm! Red beans is a creole favorite but New Years calls for black eyed peas!
Happy New Year!

Well, that's good to know. We went to the Sugar Bowl years ago, and everywhere we went in the Quarter they said red beans and rice.

All things considered I think New Orleans needs a new lucky meal. Either that or someone there forgot to eat their peas the year Hurricane Katrina struck.
