I Hate All Smokers! They're Rude and Inconsiderate!

Yeah, we've all seen it and heard it. Lots of times, right here on Mylot. I hate smokers. All smokers have no consideration for anyone else. All smokers are endangering everyone around them. You get the picture. I'm sick and tired of it. Me? I smoke. I smoke in two places: my Garage and my deck. I don't smoke around non-smokers. I don't smoke around kids. I don't smoke around anyone who doesn't smoke themselves. And I know plenty of other people who do the exact same thing. SO no, not all smokers are the same. Some smokers are jerks and will blow smoke in your face. Because they're jerks, not because they're smokers. How many people will just read the title and flip out on me?

I would only some outside my home & outside my car. Away from my kids (they don't need my bad habit hurting them). And I've quit 3 times, each time because a little stick said "pregnant". The only people I smoke around are other smokers who come & sit down with me. But I am 10 weeks 1 day pregnant & not smoking. Little milestone for me.

Hehehe I love your post :) I'm sure some will and I'm also sure some will do just the opposite, they will read it all and then flip out on you. Heaven for bid you say you are a smoker, no matter where you smoke. After all don't you have neighbors? Couldn't they be hurt by the smoke? We did have one when our neighbors were selling their house ask if the neighbors smoked. Yeah that one floored me too. I have seen actual posts that way, with something similar for the title and then they rant on about smokers. They have their right. It's a shame though that they will hate all of us when it's just a few bad apples that are the rude ones. Their loss I suppose. I have a lot of good friends that smoke.

Actually, I don't have neighbors! Not for a mile around, anyway. I've got that one covered. :D But I'm sure I'll get preached at for smoking. Ah well.

Smoking is an addiction, and unfortunately because of society's anti-smoking attitude it prevents real help being given to victims of their addiction - backing gimicks of nicotine patches or the idea that quitting smoking has to be hard when it does not. It isn't smokers who have to defend themselves, it is anti-smokers who must defend their unnecessary hatred towards smokers, and who back the anti-smoking attitude that is detrimental not just to smokers but also non-smokers through knock-on effects from the social problem of smoking

Have to say I was ready to pounce to, until I read the complete post. I consider myself a considerate smoker, I always have been. But if I want to smoke in my own home no one has the right to be offended. I was in a Casino once on the smoking floor at a smoking table, everytime I lit up the women next to me would sigh, roll her eyes, and cough. The dealer finally told her, "lady we do provide non-smoking floors and non-smoking tables maybe you would be happier in them, And the people at this table would be happier if you would take your distasteful behaviour there."

I read it and I am not flipping out! LOL. Yes, not all smokers are jerks. My mom smokes and she is not a jerk. She is considerate of other people. If she needs to smoke then she really goes out of her way to do it somewhere were she won't bother anyone specially her grandchildren. She doesn't smoke when she visits us and she doesn't smoke in public vehicles / transporation. Yes, not all smokers are jerks.

I'm no smoker. I think very lowly on inconsiderate smokers, and I do f*cking mean it. But for other considerate smokers, I think that is really their rights to do so, as long as they do not trespass other people right to have a clean air in their lungs. I never persuade any of my smokers' friend to make them their habit, I don't like jousting other people choice of life, and c'mon, we're adults, so I presume every one of us knows the very consequences of our habit. So as long as you're not a smoking jerk, ur free to go. Just my 2 cents.

It's always the same: a minority of inconsiderate smokers give the rest of us a bad name. Similar things happen with some ethnic groups where a handful of misbehaving individuals provoke anger at an otherwise decently mannered population of the same origin as the trouble-makers. The danger resides in generalising. In many people's case, one smoker blows smoke in their face, and they fly off the handle saying that ALL smokers are digusting and ill-mannered, which is indeed not the case at all. Every group of people, smokers or any other groups, has got its black sheep and we shouldn't enlarge the picture to all of them. Very good discussion, Misskatonic!

What a good question. I have been reading the responses and now realise some people just see red and go for the jugular without reading the whole question. A few shamed faces when they read your responses. + rating for you!!!

You are right, I am an adult who chose to smoke, I am plenty offended by the fact we are all lumped together as rude. Fat people don't want to be lumped as lazy. I smoke in my house(I pay for it) in my car paid that too, outside and in bars(c'mon if you are in a bar in the first place how offended can you get). They are way ruder to us than we are to them. See I read it :P

Oh yeah, non smokers can be plenty rude to smokers. I remember this colleague walked upto a friend of mine and asks her, 'Do your parents know you smoke? Isn't it unhealthy?' and crap like that. She responded that she and her dad shared a ciggy now and then (a complete *lie* btw :P) and that he can join them anytime. I don't think he bothered her again :P

Unfortunately I'm a smoker, though working on quitting, but I guess I can understand where the non-smokers are coming from--to a point. Several years ago I had stopped smoking for a year or so before starting up again like an idiot, and couldn't stand the smell...it almost made me nauseous lol. So, I've always been a considerate smoker where I try to stay away from others in public and or just non-smokers in general, basically going off into my own area, I don't smoke indoors and I don't smoke around children. I also try my best to keep the smell off of me when I'm hanging out with people who don't smoke, like my family, friends, and co-workers -- I mean, who wants to smell? lol I agree though, people do tend to take it a little overboard. There's not liking something and asking for a little consideration, and then there's just being a jerk about it and flat-out trying to control a significant part of the population to live a certain way, just because they don't live up to someone else's standards. That's like all the heavy-duty environmentalists pushing drastically for a no-car policy because they smell, they're bad for everyone's health, and the whole global warming bit. Maybe it's true, but unrealistic to impose on others.

Pease I know what you mean I don't smoke and I don't mind people smoking as long as they do it away from me and mine. Some smokers will move away from us and make sure the smoke is not coming toward us and I appreciate that, so you keep up the good work.

....quit smoking, better late than never - no smoking please
i really appreciate. u are thoughtful indeed. most smokers are very rude and irresponsible. while i appreciate ur considerations, i would like you to quit it altogether. u are a sensible smoker and prioritise others' point of view but don't you think u r only concentrating on surface level? more intrinsicly your smoke is destrying the environment and eventually global habitat!! it's shocking but even ur responsible smoking cannot save you and our planet! i would request you to QUT SMOKING in the first place and then u would have so many responsible discussions on myLot. ge real, i just hope that u exercise your honestly and sense of belonging and thoughtfullness for urself first. thank you very much
