Have you been diagnosed with depression? How do you cope with it, are you on medication, what's the name of the drug, is it helping you? Does it have side effects, what are they? Is your family supportive? I would like to know how many people suffer from depression.

We all suffer from depression, it is just a matter of whether we let it consume us. This is why I will try to set aside some quite time or just find peace in the moment to find balance. This world has gone so medication crazy that people have become dependent and some haven't even found ways to cope or overcome their issues.

You make a very good point. However, in some instances chemical imbalance is the cause. Every situation nis different and must be treated differently. The reasons are different too. There is no one answer.

Meditation is only a way to get rid off the depression. No medication for the relief.

depression is a desease and you know if you even dont try you will certainly get it out from someone. it looks like a joke but let me explain, suppose you are sitting very happy somewhere and you get a phone call from one of your friend who had just got an accident, now what will happen, certainly you will be depressed (incase you were not involved in his accident lol).Thats the way it works...

First, let start with the definition of depression: A mental state of depressed mood characterized by feelings of sadness, despair and discouragement. Depression ranges from normal feelings of the blues through dysthymia to major depression. It in many ways resembles the grief and mourning that follow bereavement, there are often feelings of low self esteem, guilt and self reproach, withdrawal from interpersonal contact and physical symptoms such as eating and sleep disturbances We have a friend who is bi-polar and is on lithium. His wife is a strong and courageous woman to be able to deal with the ups and downs that their marriage has had to endure due to his illness.

I started this discussion because I have seen my doctor and I was told I have depression, I don't think I do, maybe some days but there is something else wrong with me, it's just not depression. Thanks anyways.

I suffer from depression, I have been on 2 different medications off and on over the past 7 years. Zoloft and Wellburtin. I am not on any medications now for 2 reasons, I don't like being dependent on medication and 2 because i can't afford it. Zoloft worked well for me but I hated the fact I lost my libido while on it. Welburtin did nothing but make me jittery and spcaey.

I was diagnosed with manic/depression some years ago. I have been on medication before and it did help. Lithium mainly. I have been on some anti-depressents but not with any luck. Pamelor and Paxil caused me to have sty's, Zoloft gave me migrains. Forget Prozac, that caused me to really go off the deep end. Sadly I'm not on medication right now due to cost and no insurance. Sometimes my family is supportive, not always. My sister and niece are also manic/depressive but the rest of the family is so/so on being supportive. Sometimes they understand but most of the time they don't.
