Gay Marriage...what's the big deal?

I am trying to understand why some people have such a difficult time accepting gay marriage.
I can get married in a courthouse, with no church involvement what so ever. So why can't two gay people marry? When it comes to the "marriage is between a man and a woman" that is a religious idea and has no place within the law. No church would have accept the union, but there is no reason our country can't accept gay marriage.
Not too long ago is was illegal for interractial couples to marry, in fact I believe it is still on the books in a number of places. This idea was found to be unconstitutional. How long do you think it will take before we reccognize gay marriage in this country?
My husband and I laugh that our marriage is strong enough to "survive" gay marriage, so what are all these right-wingers afraid of?

If two PEOPLE love eachother and want to get married, they should be allowed to.

I agree. Thanks for your comment. And if your flag stands for where you live, didn't Canada just allow gay marriage? If so you will have a great deal of people coming north to be married! Again, love is love and love between two consenting adults should be accepted. Thanks for your comment!
