This is a true story.. so I'm told.
My mother played music like Mozart to me while I was still in the womb. When my brother was on his way, she hardly ever played music.. at least not as much as she did when she was pregnant with me.
I got through school much easier than my brother, in fact my brother didn't even get through high school. I have a college degree, a high paying job, good smarts about me, and a level head. My brother on the other hand is headed down the wrong path.
Thought I would share this with you, my mom swears by listening to music when you're pregnant.

Introduce music to a preborn baby in the womb! Many people do! It seems that music also has an effect on brain growth and development. Don't wait 2 years, start during gestation.

as soon as you can after the baby is born is a good time to introduce music to them. singing all the cute baby songs to them and looking at them when you sing to them is a good tool for development. It can help the baby become alert to what's going on around them, and get them used to different sounds, voices, etc

music is good entertainment for individuals at any age. it canbe used to soothe and calm a baby or yound child. some people believe that the music can even be heard and its effect seen on newborns. as we grow up we can begin to make our own choices on what music we want to listen to, or in some cases create. when we create music it has a personal touch, thats why alot of mothers like to sing to their children as it is comforting to them. still more as they grow up our tastes change, and sometimes these reflect the upbringing we have recieved. for example if you ave been brought up in a town centre, surrounded by clubs or similar then you may get accostomed to the dance type music and this may be your choice of what you like as you have heard so much of it. if you live in a town centre then you also may take the other route, in which you have heard so much of it that you get sick and turn to something similar...

I would say as early as possible, playing classical or soothing music to children whilst in the womb has proved positive effects

You can introduce music to a child as young as a newborn. There are even women who will play music for the baby while it is still in the womb.

You can introduce music to a child as soon as they are born. Some say that if a pregnant mother listen to music her child will appreciate music more.

Right from the beginning. I am pregnant and have Mozart playing often. Once the baby is born and old enough to sit up I feel that is a great time to introduce them to actual instruments (age appropriate of course). They make great ones for children of all ages.

Music has exsisted longer than speech. So straight to the music with that child of yours. Plenty of 80's cheese.

According to my pregnancy books, a fetus can hear and respond to rythme of music at 15 weeks. That's when I started introducing music to my child. But remember water is a great conductor of sound, so earphones on the belly aren't needed and can actually damage the forming ear drums. So skim them and listen to music at a normal tone. Your child can hear it!

The baby can hear music inside the womb. My son who is three now always has loved anything with a beat. He will even ask me to turn on the radio or turn it up. I don't think it's ever too early.

I don't know how anyone could resist. A whole new person, hearing music for the first time! What an experience! I know at least one guy's daughter who was dancing to music before she could even walk. Have a ball.
