Do you tidy up store racks or shelves when shopping?

Yesterday I was at the Goodwill store looking for pants for the hubby. As I browsed the rack I removed several empty hangers and brought them to the clerk. I found pants hanging by one clip and reclipped them. A few were on the floor, so I rehung them. Being unsuccesful in my search, I wandered through the store to see if there were any other bargains to be had. I found an apple parer in the sporting goods and took it to the housewares section. The patterns were facing half backwards so I rearranged them to face forward.
At the drug store I closed the boxes that were left opened. I shifted stock so they were at the front of the shelf. I noted that a lot of the stock was old and needed to be liquidated. Maybe I should have asked for a job!

It's funny because I only tidy the racks at the stores I like to shop at. I may go to Goodwill and tidy the racks, but go to Saks and intentionally make messes because the sales associates are really rude!!
I kind of see picking stuff up as a way of building a relationship with the store personelle..if they see you cleaning their store, they are more likely to give you extra discounts at the register, hehe!!

I was thinking the same thing when I was doing it the other day. But, I still felt the need to do it. For some reason I felt calmer when I tidied up the place.

Wow...they should have hired you right there! I don't do all that while I am there...I sometimes pick up things that fall from hangers..but that is about it. The store is usually in such a mess to begin with...there is stuff and toys everywhere...so I would need to be there all day...lol...

I almost applied to the Goodwill store many months ago, but the salary for an assistant manager was minimum wage. Very underpaid.

I am far from being a perfectionist. My husband is the tidy one. I am less tidy.

After spending 5 years working for a grocery store, and 2 years at a clothing shop, I have a bad habit of straitening up as I go along. It annoys my boyfriend, but my best friend has been in retail for 10 years, and we laugh at each other, because we both do it. I think it's a very considerate thing to do, and don't feel wierd about it. I'm sure the people working at the store are silently thanking you for being so nice. Not too many people left these days are considerate, so be proud of it!

If I see something on the floor, I'll pick it up or have one of my kids do it. At one thrift store I shop at, if you buy clothes you're supposed to leave your hanger on the rack. I'll usually put mine and any other I see in the same area at the front of the rack so it's easier for them to see.

There were no signs indicating that the hangers needed to be left on the rack and there was a pile near the register. The manager thanked me for tidying up.

yes this has also happened with me....usually i tend to buy the same colors again and again..i usually likee blue color..so whenevrer i go out for shopping..its like i just..tend to get inclined towards the blue color. But i feel its a very good practice to clear up the shelves when u are shopping. the reason being these days things are kept openly in the stores..usually in cloth stores..u try out the size and just throw away the clothes...not lookin at from where they have been removed. i totally agree with you..there shoud be discipline amongst customers..u cant expect the store peoplee to be slaves and just keep on keeping the shelves tidy

I should go back and ask them if they need help. I do have many talents to offer them.

I had to laugh at your post. I think that's very funny, especially the apple parer. Nice, but funny too. I'm usually in such a rush that I wouldn't have time to be cleaning the store. I might pick up something that's fallen, but that's the height of it. I'm tempted to e-mail Goodwill and tell them about the good samaritan that's helping in their store.

I do that at card stores a little bit. I used to work at a card store and it was a pain putting them all in the right place after rude customers put them back all over the place. Now I always put cards back in the right place and yell at friends and families when I see them shoving them anywhere.
I will also pick things off the floor and reshelve them, or straighten a few things here or there if I see someone knocked them. It's just common curtosy. Some people thing they can just go to a store and make a mess and leave it for the employees, but these same people would be ticked if someone came to their job and made a mess and left it. Be kind :)

you're too good.I think i dont.I always put anything that i dont like at the place that i went. For example, if i take a soap from one rack, then i walk to other rack then i saw another better soap, then i pick the new soap, put the old soap at that place considering there will be a storekeeper to take care of it. I'm bad rite. But that is how i shop even for clothes. never hang it back!
