How expensive is too much for you to go see a movie at the theatre?

Is there a point where you will not go to the movies and will wait til it comes out on pay per view or rental or to buy? I think the cost of the movies is way too expensive now a days and I do not go as often as I used to go. Here the matinee is $7.50 for adults and at night it is $9.75. If I do go, it is during the day.

It's insane nowadays. I paid $9 one night to see a movie. It's cheaper to rent and the food is just outrageous.

I think $9 is way too high and just imagine what it would cost for a family of five to see a movie.

I simply don't go.We get every movie channel available so I just wait for them to come on cable. My son likes buying them instead of going out so I get to watch them that way too.

I am very rather going to see the movie in the theater, because it is expensive for me. about $2.50 - $3.00. and in my country there are have programs to make people in my country watching movie in theater, the names is "nomat" or "nonton hemat" or in English "cheap watching movie" in Sunday about $1.50 - $2.00. and it is work!! cause every Sunday the theater is full and crowded people

This is very interesting to know and appreciate your comments and information. The theatres here get crowded at night mainly on the weekends or if a big movie comes out.

I stopped going to the movies a long time ago. This is just too expensive for me especially after you tack on popcorn and a drink. I kind of feel sorry for teenagers dating now. An evening at the movies could really set some poor guy back a lot. We usually wait for the dvd to come out. We can fix our own snacks at a fraction of the cost of theater ones, as well as pause it if we have to go to the bathroom. hehe

I usually wait for the movies to come out on dvd or rentals since the theatres overcharge for the movie and for refreshments. We also have to pay high gas costs just to get there.

It ranges from $8.50 to $9.50 out this way. For a matinee it is usally around $7.00. Some movies will give you the matinee price if you are a senior. But still, double it and it is too expensive for 1 1/2 hours of entertainment. I rather rent a bunch of dvds and relax in my home.

It is definitely cheaper to rent dvds than go to the theatre now.

To me $7.50 is too expensive. We used to go to this dollar theater in Iowa but since we've moved to Ky, we only went once because it is too expensive down here. Now we just rent movies, which is alot better anyways.

Renting or buying movies seems to be better than going to the movies for various reasons like less spending, being able to pause the movie when needed, no lines and more.

Here it costs $12 per person to see a movie. But I have seven children. And of course, they do not allow outside food to be brought in. So, we do not go to the movies. We would rather spend the same amount of money it would cost to get two people in to buy the movie and microwave popcorn. Then it is better because we can pause it for potty breaks. :)

I absolutely agree that it is better to rent or buy the movie since you can take potty breaks or whatever other breaks you need during the movie plus being a lot cheaper. That is a lot of money to see a movie.

I agree! I only have two children but for a family of four it can cost nearly $60 just to go to the movies. Tickets are almost $10/each and with popcorn and drinks it is outrageous! We would rather order pizza and rent a few movies for that price.

I rarely see movies in the theater anymore. It's way too expensive. With an adult ticket at $10+ and a child ticket at $7+, it costs me at least $75 for a movie and concessions. I'd rather wait until it comes out on DVD and either rent or buy the movie.

It has to be a movie, I'm VERY interested in seeing. Otherwise, with the high prices, I'd rather just wait until it come out on DVD..lol

I always go to the matinees because they are less expensive. The theater I go to charges $5.50 for children 12 and under and $6.50 for adults for the matinee. The admission for adults after 4:00 pm is $8.50. So I either go to the matinee or I just wait until the movie comes out on DVD.

I too always go to the matinees as it is cheaper and less crowded for the most part. Your fees are a dollar less than ours but still very high.

I think the cost of movies today is way to expensive. Why should I pay $10.00 to see a movie ( even though I still do it). There should be a decrease in how much a movie ticket is.

That would be nice if they set a limit where the movie ticket can not reach or go over. It should not cost us as much as it does now.

the movies around here are $8 after 6:00. We have on Demand and the movies are only $4.99 so we just wait until the movie comes out. I mean sometimes we go to the movies just to go out but mainly we just watch it On Demand.

After $12 I consider it ridiculous. It is $9 or $10 during the day at most places around here.

I agree with you that going to the movies can be quite expensive these days!!! Not only for the movie itself but also because of the prices of the snacks now as well!!! I went to visit Everett , Washington and it was $15 for 2 popcorn and 2 drinks...EXTREME!!!

Movies is getting expensive nowadays. Dear hubby and I agreed that instead of going to the movies, we just put the money to our baby's (bank) account every payday. Besides, we get 3 movies (same time) from Netflix so it's pretty good!

I never miss movies .I watch every movie in theatre.....But the reason for that is ,In India movies in good multiplex would cost only 60RS in morning and maximum upto 150Rs at night. 1$ = 50Rs So, In morning It would cost only a 1$ And at night may be 2$ or 3$ but not more than that... Being very lucky in this case......its not too expensive.

I think it is 8 euro per adult, which would work out to about $10.40 per person. That must be matinee prices because as we take the kids we never to go the movies in the evenings. What a rip off!
