In India majority are in lower middle class (70%)
some 10 to 15% are in the middle class
Some 10% are in the upper middle class
Balance 5% are in upper class.
Nearly 65% of people live in villages. Their incomes are low.
Suppose a young boy from middle class joins IT industry with a salary of 2000$ per month, suddenly the family moves from lower class to middle class (if they were middle class, they move to upper middle class). This transformation is taking place now. But then vast majority remain in lower middle class unless their agricultural income increases.

I blame those feminists who wanted us all in the workforce. If families had one income, houses wouldn't cost $150 thousand, and parents wouldn't give their kids every toy they ask for in order to compensate them for the lack of patental attention. If mothers never entered the workforce in overwhelming numbers, life would not be so costly to begin with.

I think people can make it on one income IF the one person working make a decent wage. I think people just over extend themselves so that they are forced to work two jobs.

You could say that. If your not in the low class, then you are most likely upper class because if you dont have any money you qualify for medicaid, food stamps, unemployment, etc but with a tiny little bit of income - meaning enough for gas - then you dont qualify for anything. i know im stuck in that situation right now - i guess thats why i used it as an example.

i dont think middle class is dwindling away because if this is happening either the number of poor people has to increase which has not or the number of rich people have to increse which it has but not at a proportion that is enough to justify the large number of middle class people.
