Can you live without MODERN TECHNOLOGY? Why or why not?

I think that people nowadays are too reliant on modern technology. Modern technology is good at some point but it also promotes laziness among everyone. (Like the invention of the remote control to make sure that we don't stand up to switch stations or the telephone to talk to a person who is miles and miles away and many more.) It's good because it makes our lives convenient in many ways. I think I cannot live without some modern technology like electricity, internet, computers and phones. It's so hard to live life without them. What about you? Can you live without modern technology? Why/ why not? What are the disadvantages and advantages of modern technology to all of us? ^^

I don't think anyone could really live well without modern technology if they've been exposed to it before...I mean, those people that live in Puritan/Ahmish societies, that are born without much knowledge of the technology outside could probably manage without it...but those of us who were born into a world where technology rules probably couldn't manage very well, at all.

Hmm...Why not try living a day without using any of the modern technology that you see around you? Will it really be that hard? I have tried it once when I went to the province. They didn't have electricity there. No TV, no radio, no computers and no telephones! That really sucked big time. Why don't you try it once? You can never tell what will happen next. Anyway, thank you for posting! ^^

I was raised in a city and I have lived in the rural countryside with no modern technologies at all. I did it. But I am an exception to the rule, so I agree, most city folk don't have a clue and could not survive.

Yes, I can and have lived without modern technology. I know how to gather wood; chop wood; make a fire for warmth or cooking. I know how to sew by hand and make my own patterns. I know how to live off wild plants if I have to. I know how to fish. I know how to grow my own food. I have lived without electricity, without the internet, without television. I had a hand crank/solar radio/luminous flashlight. I've lived without plumbing, using an outhouse. I've lived without an outhouse, in a cabin tent, in the woods.

modern technology has made life so much easier and it also shows how great the human mind is for being able to come up with things that would greatly change our way of living. But you're right, it promotes laziness in people and it reduces the means of social interaction to data exchange from a physical/personal get-together (ex. we prefer to use mobile phones, email, messenger or telephones when communicating with others than going to their house or meeting them; videoconferencing over being physically there at meetings). Yet even if i know that modern technology brings some negative effects, i also know that i wouldn't be able to live without them.

i think that we can live without modern technology, however our lives would change dramatically. the things we do, how long it takes us and the way we do them. children that are brought up without modern technology however should survive admirably. we always did before we had it. the only thing is that a good role model is needed to provide a child with the correct skills, if we were suddenly out of modern technology then we would not know correctly how to do things without prior instruction or practice. khris

this is one of the top questions people ask every day and dont get the proper answers. "can u live without MORDERN TECHNOLOGY???????????" people are trying everywhere to do so but end up in vain. this is because the so called mordern gadgets has become a part of ourself that makes the bonding inseperable.even though there are a few draw backs they cannot be completely eliminated from our life becoz of their versatile applications. this we all accept in our day today life.

TECHNOLOGY has redefined survival. I think technology should be included in the list of basic human needs viz air, water, food, clothing and shelter and the kids to be taught in a similar way. Instead of worrying that we have become very much dependent on technology, it will do a greater good and be more useful if we start taking measures for making the optimum use of technology. Afterall the future is science viz social science, biological science, science of law etc. We need technology in every field which is indispensible.

Well the advantages are pretty much our disadvantages. They save us time, which gives us more time to be lazy. The make the job easier, which means we aren't doing as much. They keep your attention, which means your not pondering, low brain exercise. They are affordable, but think how much you could save without them at all. I could do without them really. We turn the TV off and all the lights but one and play board games with the children all the time. It's so nice and quiet. I have a dishwasher, but I mostly wash my dishes by hand, it gives me time to think things over while I do it. It's almost therapeutic. I have a riding lawn mower, but I mostly use the push mow, for the same reason I do dishes by hand. I could just go on and on, but I won't. Modern Technology, as far as everyday appliancse the common man has, isn't something I have to have in my life.

i can't live without my phone. I tried I gave it up for about 2 weeks and it drove me crazy. I didn't realize how it was a big part of my life. Then I broke down and I reached into my pocket by instinct and there was nothing there. I realized I was in the middle of no where with no way to get a hold of anybody. I got another cell that night.

Hehe...First of all, don't call me buddy. I'm a girl and it doesn't sound good. ^^ Well, yeah. I was just asking other people if they can live without it because I know that I will have a hard time doing so. Most of people's lives evolves around modern technology so I know that it's going to be hard for us to continue living without it in the next millenium or so. Thanks anyway!

i think humans forget living in nature, feeling free, and now we are dependents of technology. I think we cannot resist without electricity, TV, cellphones, computers and other stuffs. we are dependents and limited.

Well, I think it depends on the type of person that you are. In my case, I can live without modern technology. I lived in the Middle East for a while, and we had no electricity and no running water, and things actually seemed better without any type of technology. I think people in the past used to seem more happy and more at peace with life because of the fact that they didn't have technology. Nowadays, we spend most of our time on the television. Or on the phone. Or listening to our ipods. It's all a waste of time, because in the end, when we can't breathe anymore, we're going to wish we spent more time with our loved ones, rather than with our T.V's and ipods and phones.

It's sad but true. Some people give more time to such modern technologies that they overlook what really matters to them the most. I'm glad some people realized and shared that to others. Thanks for your response! ^^

Yes, i could live without modern technology because I have lived before without it when I was younger so it is possible. Life might not be quite as interesting without it but we certainly could live without it and might be better off without it as well. We would get out of our houses more and communicate more with our friends and family instead of hiding behind a computer. We would do more cooking instead of using microwaves or going out to eat. You have to have electricity. That is not technology. Phones have been around forever though they are more advanced now than they used to be.

With the new world and environment surrounding me I think I will not survive even a single day with out the technology. The modern technology has taken so much boom in the world that now it has become a virtual member of our family. Our heart pains if we donot see then for a second.. For example my computer..I donot stay overnight to any relative's house because I am so much addicted with my computer and internet..that I can't live a single day without even touching or seeing it for once.

Whoa! It seems that you are obsessed with your computer...That is bad. (JOKE!) Anyway, I understand what you're trying to say here so I guess, it will really be hard for you to adapt with a very primitive existence. Thanks for the response anyway! ^^
