So do you think tanning is a horrible thing or do you love the feeling of laying in the tanning bed relaxing and getting warm? In my opinion i love tanning. i just started tannning again 3 days ago and it feels so good. i know it can cause cancer and stuff but it's like an addiction and it really isnt that expensive either. So give me your thoughts on this.

I don't think that tanning is a very good I dea. By tanning you expose yourself to hamful UV rays. In my opinnion going to the tanning salon is much worse than laying in the sun (even though they are both harmful).

yea the UV rays can be harmful. however using the right tanning bed they reduce the affects. like use a bed with less of the harmful UV rays. i forgot which one is which. there are UVB and UVA and i think the UVB is the one that is the most harmful and also using a good lotion with antioxidants and vitamins in them then it is much better than using the wrong lotions and the wrong beds. thanks for responding.

it's tanning. it's where you lay in a bed that has a top that closes they have lights in them and these lights have sun rays that make your skin darker. we call this tanning. you can also do this outside in the sun. hope this helps you.

yeah a lot of people i know are scared too because they feel like they're in a coffin and stuff. at first i was worried about getting locked in and someone walking in on you but now i know better. the place i go is smaller and it's so much better. they help you pick lotion and tell you what's good for your body and they are really nice. i feel like i'm visitng friends when i go there. thanks for responding.

I wont do it. I burn pretty easily so everyone tells me I need to get a good base before summer. Nope, I use tons of sunscreen. Even though your skin may look better, I have no clue what it's doing to my individual cells. I have moles on my body and do not need them to turn cancerous because I've baked them in a tanning bed. I'll stick with nature as much as possible.

lighter skin people do tend to burn easier. i used to but then i started tanning gradually like about 10 minutes the first time and then 12 minutes and now i'm at 15 minutes i've been going for about a week now. so next time i'll step it up to 18 minutes. i also have a few moles they're not big or anything and nothing has come of it yet and i've been tanning for about 2 years now. thanks for your response.

I love getting a tan but I have never tried a sun bed or a spray booth.
I just love being stretched out on a beach somewhere hot.

getting sprayed is also nice. it's kind of cold but it gets you dark color fast. i love being in a warm bed because on the beach you cant get an all over tan unless you know a secret spot. thanks for responding.

I personally have never went into the tanning bed I think it would make me claustrophobic but I have quite a few friends that do it and love it and my father used to go before he would head south so he wouldn't burn....I am just not into heat or closed spaces but maybe I'll try never say never right??

that can happen to you. but i know a woman about 40 years old and she has been tanning for about 25 years and she is beautiful not wrinkled. her secret is a natural bronzing tanning lotion with lots of antioxidants and vitamins in it and i used it yesterday and i felt so nice afterwards. if you dont use the right things tanning can be gross.

Actually you're right. It can be an addiction. A friend of mine just concluded a research study about it, and the results were pretty conclusive. Also, if you ever want to know about tanning beds, talk to a dermatologist. or just look at those leathery people at the beach.

wow. it would be great to do a research study on tanning beds. i know they're not healthy for you however if you use the best lotion out there it helps protect your skin. i know a woman and she is about 40 years old and she has been tanning for 25 years and she looks great. she uses some really good lotion and it has loads of vitamins and things that you need for your body. such as they recommend you go in the sun unprotected for 15 minutes so you can get your vitamin d. over 50% of your vitamin d comes from the sun itself. so it doesnt always make you look old or leathery if you use a really good lotion then you will look great. most of the people at the beach dont do that because they use the cheap stuff from walmart. not the stuff from the salon and they dont tan inside much.

Well I think tanning is nice. I mean for women who have fairer skin it's a nice way to achieve a skin color that they're not used to. Just like tanned or dark skinned girls want to lighten their skin. Tanning would never work out for me though since I'm already a natural tan.

I really enjoy tanning. I'm sooooooo pale, so it makes me feel really good about myself when I have a good tan. It also makes me look and feel more healthy!
Yes, it's dangerous, but so is driving to work every morning. And if someone is worried about the cancer thing, there's always the spray tan stuff!
What do yall think about the spray tans? Do they look really fake? Is it worth the money?

i'm pretty pale myself. makes me feel good about myself too. you have a point about driving every morining. it's dangerous too. i love spray tan as well. i got it done and it doesnt look fake at all. it's not orange like some people said. i think it is worth the money. it gives you a quick tan.. thanks for responding

I am not against tanning. But there is no need for me to be tan because I am already tan. In fact I would love to get a whiter skin complexion so I try to stay away from the sun and use lightening products. Things are reverse, the white people would like to be tan. The tan people would like to be white. Hehehe

isn't it amazing how darker skin people want lighter skin and light skin people want darker skin. it's like straight hair girls want curly hair and curly hair girls want straight hair. thanks for responding.

I used to think tanning was okay but my auntie who is a dedicated tanner has had over 50 spots of skin cancer removed from her body -- a direct result of the tanning bed she has been told. She has had all of these treatments and pain and expenses, all because she couldn't live without a tan, she just loved the look and stuff. She thinks she is cancer free at present but has to keep being checked just in case. I care for my life too much to endanger myself for the vanity of a tan, I hope others feel the same. Just a warning to all the tanners out there -- there is a risk of cancer involved.

sorry to hear about you auntie. there are safe ways to tan now. they have a laser spray tan that you can get. it's an all over spray. it looks just as great as a tan from the beds. you don't have to worry about the sun rays or skin cancer. too bad they didnt have these when your auntie was tanning. thanks for responding.

I'd be worried about how much skin cancer has increased and when tanning beds came around. (i think the figures will pretty much match)
This is why i won't ever use one but another reason is because i already have tanned skin which hardly fades. (i have orange hands at times) lol
I can see why people like 'em and it's cool but you know that i see cancer as a bad thing and i would do anything myself to avoid getting it. (i don't smoke)
Kudos.

It is great, the warm feeling, especially when it is cold out. I love it. The one thing I don't like is when you first get in, and no one was in prior to you getting in, and it is cold. It just goes through you when your back hits that ice cold glass bed! haha

it's great to even talk about it because you can feel the warmth. it's so cold here today that i dont think i'm going anywhere. i let mine warm up a little before i get in. it's way too cold to just jump in. thanks for responding.
