do treadmills help you lose weight? do they help tighten stomach muscles and upper leg muscles? do you use a treadmill and how has it helped or hurt you? i'm considering going to the gym and get on a treadmill to help me lose a few pounds and i want a tighter tummy and tighter butt and upper legs i was wondering if using a treadmill will help those areas?

It will absolutely tighten your butt and legs. Eventually it will tighten your tummy. It helps if you are able to walk at an incline. I have been using my treadmill for years, just not often enough. lol

the incline definately works your abs! I used mine on an incline for the first time the other day and I really felt it in my abs....Treadmill workouts are great for getting your heartrate up (cardio) which of course is part key to losing wt, its great for your legs, butt and hips too I find....I love my treadmill EXCEPT its somewhat loud which drives me nuts...

Any exercise that you do will burn calories. We are getting a treadmill from my sister. I hope to be able to use it. My husband has said that he will definately use it. Walking is good exercise. If you can't do it outside, why not do it inside with the help of a treadmill.

No I dont but I wish I have one. I take a walk every day and for the days its raining it would be great to have a treadmill. But they are too expensive for me.

it's much easier to have a treadmill if it's raining or you live in a cold state like i do or you have a lot of things to do and no time to walk outside. they are quit expensive. i go to the gym where my boyfriend works. he works at a car dealership. lol.

I guess i want to know the same question as you, I too am thinking about getting a treadmill because i do like to walk it just isnt always feasible to walk at a steady pace when you have children you have to tag along. But i tell you i cant wait to get one because i sure need it. You can listen to inspirational tapes and if you get one with a rest you could probably even read a book while walking. I hope you get one and you will enjoy it.

i've gotten many positive responses from this post and i have found treadmills very useful. walking isn't always an option especially if you live in a state that's cold or have kids. you can do many things while on a treadmill. watch tv, listen to music and inspirational tapes, talk on the phone, and many other things. thanks for responding and hope you get one too.

For me the treadmill didn't do anything but make my back hurt. Others, I'm sure like them. I belong to the Y here in Illinois and found what really worked for me and fast was playing racketball by myself. Wow, what a difference. It only took a month to tighten up all parts of my body. Swimming will do the same if there's a pool at gym.

some times treadmills can be hurtful to your body. especially if you're not used to it. hmm. racketball sounds fun i may try it. is that where you hit the ball against a wall? lol. i like swimming so i may have to join a gym or the Y in my city. thanks for responding.

hi am a personal trainer. teadmills will work out most of your body but you cant relie on it to do everything like fully tone up. i recomended you go to a gym and get them to do a fitnes test. From that fitness test they would then be able to tell you what exerciser you should be doing for your body as everyone is different what works for me might not work for you. they will et you do do weights and ball work and lots of crdio work but you will lokk great and tone in no time.

hello. nice to hear from a professional in the field. i know treadmills can't do everything it would be a miracle machine if it did. what do you think of an elliptical machine? i have used it and i really liked it. i will do a fitness test and see what's best for me. i have a ball at home and i really like that too. sparkpeople.com has let me know a lot of different workouts to do on the ball. thanks so much for the response.

I lost weight in my butt and my thighs. I had to do situps to tighten my tummy. But treadmills can be hard on your knees if you use them to much

Treadmills are excellent for losing weight, especially around the stomach area, I was actually told by my gym instructor that running on a treadmill will help you get a trim stomach more than doing sit ups do, it burns the excess fat around your stomach, it also strengthens the legs as well so you end up losing the flab and gaining muscle. For your butt you would need to use other gym equipment as with your upper legs, if you go to the gym then they will give you specially designed exercises to work with the parts you want to deal with. Good luck with your weight loss.

the main purpose of treadmills is for a cardiovascular workout. it increases your heart's ability to pump blood and oxygen to all the muscles of your body so that you can perform tasks and stuff for longer periods of time before getting too tired. your legs and butt will get excercised all right but it is best that you just jump on a treadmill for warm-up purposes, just to get your blood flowing thru your muscles, then do squats and crunches to excercise your targetted areas.

ok cool. i need to get my heart to pump more because i get out of breath easily. i dont really know why. i dont have asthma or anything. and i'm not really overweight maybe just about 15 pounds but i'm trying to lose that. thank you for the advice and telling me what a treadmill really does for you. i am also working out on an elliptical machine it's like one of those things that tony little has out. i forgot what he called it. you can feel it working your legs and butt it also helps your arms and it's a resistance machine. i love it. thanks..

I used to go to the gym 3 times a week at least (I have since moved town and haven't started going here) Any way I used to walk for half an hour every time on the treadmill and then do a few light weights. The walking definately changed my body shape. I am not a big person anyway but needed to tone up legs, butt and stomache. I also found my respiratory system or fitness level increased. because I used to not be able to talk while I walked but by the end I was going quicker and having full conversations while I walked. I would definately recommend it.

i don't like the gym and i hate working out even more. i'm not a big person either but i do need to tighten up the legs, butt and stomach. i also need it to help with my respiratory system because i get out of breath when straining or running. thanks for responding.

I love treadmills. I get a lot of stress on my knees and feet, but i really find that it helps me! I can burn a lot of calories and fat running on one. Inclines help me work my calf muscles a lot. I only feel my abs when i run for extremely long distances (3+ miles). Last night i ran 3.6 miles, and had to work on an ab lounge to get an ab workout! But the thing I love most about treadmills is the cardio workout i recieve. I really sweat, and my heart loves the exercise. =)
