Which chatroom networks do you prefer? do you prefer Java? which is easy and can be used on most computers, without having to download anything? or do you prefer IRC or mIRC? which is a little more difficult to use, and require you download the IRC/mIRC program, but allow you to do so much more in the way of controlling your chatrooms, weeding out the trouble makers, and keeping logs, and script programs to automatically react to a given situation in the chatroom?

you can go to yahoo or most other sites of that nature to use a Java chatroom, or you can go to mirc.com and download mirc. read the help manual in the program, and you should be able to do it ok. it you choose to do this, i would recommend going to they irc.webmaster.com server, by typing /server irc.webmaster.com that will take you there. then you just choose where you want to go, and go from there. it is really much more superior to java-based chatrooms

Yahoo chatrooms have become littered with bots and gross bots at that! I don't like using java chats, because it takes forever for java to boot up and I hate waiting. More websites should implement Flash or AJAX chats. http://www.Gabbly.com has a nice AJAX chat and you can embed your own chats on your own websites for free.
But, my point is, there are no really clean chat communities anymore. If you use mIRC (with the no-name script that makes it really clean looking) you can find some normal people on EFnet chats to talk with if you get bored.

iwould have to disagree. while yes, it is very basic and easy, it is TOO basic. you don't get the same kind of freedom and abilities you have in irc. you can't make your own channel in yahoo, for you and your friends. i haev a chatroom, and in addition to my main chatroom, i have created a room that is for use strictly by the ops. it is my meeting room. that has served me well. i can't do that kind of thing on yahoo

I prefer mIRC and yahoo msn chatroom, it's user friendly and I think why I like both chatrooms, is because of my friends there.

i have tried a forum board or two, and dont' really like them. mylot.com is pretty cool though. it is like one big, slow chatroom, where you get payed to voice your opinion. nothing wrong with that!!

i agree. those are the major downfalls of java. i used to use java all the time. but i got tired of that. my friends told me about irc, so i checked it out. it isn't relaly hard to use, you just have to know what you ar edoing. and there is a bit of typig to remember to do different things, if you are an op. if you aren't an op, then you pretty much don't have to remember much of anything

mirc is also free. you get 30 days to use it free. then remove the program, and put it back on again. i normally only have it on the computer while i am using it. when i am done, i remove it. i like the additional memory it provides me with when it is not there.

mIRC was the first chat client I'd ever used to chat ages ago, so I still prefer. I'm actually anti-java, halfway makes my eye twitch every time I look at it *Shiver*. I don't chat very much these days, however, unless it's on IM. Chat's not what it used to be, that's for sure. I blame webcams lol.

i am not anti java, since i have a java backpack for my chatroom in my website, but that is because that is the only wat to attach my channel to the website. otherwise, i would avoid java. it has way too many problems. it's nice to know i am not the only one in here who prefers irc. and yes. the webcams are the culprit :P lol

I believe the best chat room is none. They are usually a breeding ground for undesired trouble. Opens up ports allowing unauthorized access with ease.
Java is also risky. IRC and mIRC especially. Whenever I used mIRC I always gained a virus and always run full version updated antivirus and firewall software and hardware.
There are many many sources for chat rooms to be found on the internet.
Gaming sites often have chat rooms as well.
Without naming any of the major players that offer chat rooms, in my experience they all pose certian security risks. There seems to always be someone who is "listening" for a way into our personal pc's.
In the 17 years I have been using computers I can tell you some seriously bad horror stories using some of the most common sources for chat rooms although I wont elaborate in this post.
I am curious what you are requiring a chat room for as there are ways that you can create your own by employing specific software, to host from your own pc. Often including cam software as well.
There are ways to keep traffic logs as well. Some chat programs offer ability to aquire logs.
I can suggest doing searches on the internet using keywords for the specifics of what you are looking for.
To weed out troublemakers you want a chat room that allows you to block or boot the problem. Most chat rooms offer this ability.
I am unsure of script programs.

well, i cannot say anything on the virus part. i just know i have never gotten a bug while in irc.and if you'd like to tell me about that chat software, i wouldn't mind checking it out. as for the logs, the kicks and the weeding out, that is what irc does. and the scripts, they are little miniprograms that irc has that you can get to go and, well, say someone is repeating themselves alot. that is flooding. that messes up the network. so you can get or make a script that will immediately kick someone from the room if they do that. or will kick them for using certain words. they help maintaining the chatroom, and i find them to be very useful

i'll give you this. yahoo messenger is the best program for one on one chatting, or for conference chatting with a group. but i go online looking to find NEW people to talk to. i can't do that with messenger. so i go into the chatrooms, and make some online friends.

I prefer java applet for chatting purpose.Because it is compatible with every platform of computer operating system and also very interactive in nature.

it is compatible and interactive, as you say, but also very fussy. i can't tell you how many times i was using java when i experienced netsplits, or when my connection suddenly just failed. also, not all computers will load java. the last computer i had would only load the java applet about once every 4th try. so it isn't the greatest

honestly i spent years wandering the chatrooms that are yahoo. i would go room to room, trying to talk, but no one in there is ever talking. i go into irc, and people are actually talking. or if they aren't, it is extremely easy to go to a channel that is. And you can pm in mirc. i do it all the time.

So many words are unknown to me.
I am not a computer software expert.
Only the word "Chat" I could get.
Well, Previously I used to play on Yahoo but nowadays I started liking this mylot.
So presently I don't chat anywhere else. What you want to suggest?
Are you in a mood of guiding us something which can add some pleasure.

alright. what i can do is tell you how to get into mirc which is a good place to chat. i have been using it for 3 years or so. go to mirc.com and download mirc. then, go ahead and run it. i prefer webmaster servers, so type in /server irc.webmaster.com to connect, then type /join #help to join the help room. they will tell you how to get to a chatroom you want from there. they can tell you how to list the chatrooms. all you do to go to one, is type /join #channelname and you are in. you meet a lot of interesting people on there.
